Gamestop has word that preordering the PC edition of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty will get you guaranteed access to the beta test for the upcoming real-time strategy sequel. As for when this will happen, they say: "Official release dates have not been announced by Blizzard. Release date listed are estimates only and subject to change." Also, those who would like to get beta access and then cancel their preorders should note this warning: "Available online and in-store while supplies last. Once you receive your Beta Code your order cannot be canceled."
