More developers have parted ways with Infinity Ward as part of the protracted aftermath of
the firing of studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West, reports
Eurogamer. Word is programmer Jon Shiring and designer Mackey McCandlish have tendered their resignations, about a week after the
departures of lead designer Todd Alderman and lead software engineer Francesco Gigliotti. There's no word whether any of them have signed on with Respawn Entertainment, West and Zampella's
just announced new studio. For their part, Activision tells
Gamasutra: "We look forward to continuing to work with Infinity Ward’s deep bench of proven talent on exciting new projects."

The new features that showed up in CoD4 were ground breaking. Kill Cams, online rpg elements, dozens of weapons to customize, a minimap that showed enemy locations based on sounds, firing through walls, perks, ALL of that was built into CoD5, treyarch didn't come up with those things, they just modded them to be more WW2 friendly. IW didn't come up with those things either. BF2 had an online leveling system. Manhunt had a sound-based radar system. Fallout had perks. I think Call of Juarez let you shoot through objects. Tribes had a mod that was basically a kill cam (letting the camera follow projectiles during replays, etc).
So calling IW innovative is a bit misleading. You can definitely call it influential but innovative? Not so much. |
