Trine Patch Removes Copy-Protection

The Trine Downloads Page now offers downloads of the version 1.06 patch for Trine that was released automatically via Steam on Wednesday. A number of changes are involved, including the removal of the copy-protection from the North American and European editions of the action/platformer. The patch is mirrored on ActionTrip. The patch notes follow.

  • removes copy-protection from some retail versions of Trine (Europe, North America)

  • adds new resolutions to the Launcher (uncommon resolutions can still be forced by editing config\options.txt and setting the resolution with lines screen_height_and screen_width)
  • adds support for manually configuring which input devices to use in config\options.txt (player1_keyboard_ID, player1_mouse_ID)
  • adds Turkish language support (text), thanks to 23 Studios (Semih Sancar & Devrim Sahin)

  • fixes "Up" control to be separate from "Jump" (configurable in the Customize controllers screen)
  • fixes Windowed mode titlebar support
  • fixes mouse cursor in widescreen (aspect ratio)
  • fixes a rare crash when the player touches a falling rock as it breaks
  • fixes a rare crash when a water splash effect is played while the player exits to menus
  • fixes a rare bug that occurred when the player switched characters and died simultaneously
  • fixes final boss animations sometimes not working properly (Tower of Sarek)
  • fixes a co-op respawn bug with the last checkpoint (Tower of Sarek)
  • fixes a collision issue in the Iron Forge level (caused the Thief to take damage from lava)
  • fixes several oxygen gauge bugs
  • fixes autoaim bugs in Tower of Sarek
  • fixes the Boots item to work properly (reduces spike/goo damage)
  • fixes random failure of overwriting save slots in the New Game menu
  • fixes incorrect behavior with menu select confirms when using a gamepad
  • fixes menu behavior during fade outs
  • fixes Credits section names again

  • note: a check for Radeon 5000 Series (5400-5900) for Vista/Windows 7 has been added to disable high quality videos that cause random crashes with these systems; this check can be disabled with the option "force_high_quality_video = 1" in config\options.txt (which may be useful if e.g. new graphics drivers fix the problem eventually).

"
The STALKER series obviously comes to mind, as Clear Sky had a 5-limit TAGES activation scheme that was later removed. "

You sure about this? Last I checked on Steam it was still noted as having that limit.

I regret the $5.00 I spent on this game. It's boring.

Well, it had a demo.

Witcher, Civ4 Complete, and Supreme Commander also did away with their DRM schemes. There are probably others ...

Well, you have to patch it first.

Apparently Bioshock still goes onto the server, though, there just aren't any activation limits any more.

Ah, okay. Didn't realize that. Sigh, guess I have to uninstall and then reinstall. And I don't even really play it, since JC2 kicks its ass in every department.

Thanks for the links.

Didn't you hear? The Project Reality guys moved to Trine as their game engine. Plays a LOT better now!

Political freedom can only be preceded by economic freedom which is preceded by monetary freedom.

That's good. DRM would be a whole lot more palatable if all devs would remove it 6 months after the game became available.

Other than Egosoft doing it for X, I can't think of anyone else who's ever done this though. Because obviously, your title getting pirated a year or more after release is a MAJOR concern. Rolleyes
ID software did that with their older games - it's how I "borrowed" quake 2 when I was a cheap teenybopper. I think Epic's done that with the UT series also.

I'm pretty sure Bioshock's is still on there, and Far Cry 2 happily registered with the online game server when I installed it on my Win 7 box less than a month ago...

In recent memory, I think Bad Company 2, Bioshock, Far Cry 2, World in Conflict have all seen patches that removed Securom or other DRM, and sometimes the disc check.

4. Steam version still has DRM. Apr 9, 2010, 12:04 I've Got The News Blues

From this announcement it sounds like the DRM was only removed from some retail releases of the game. The version on Steam most likely still has Steam's DRM in it and requires the Steam client and authentication to run.
