The Settlers 7 Demo, Specs

The Ubisoft Forums announce the availability of a playable demo for The Settlers 7, the next installment in the long-running strategy management series (thanks Xirix). The 2.6 GB download is on German website Pfanni, but word is it is a multilanguage demo, and a mirror of the demo is now available on AtomicGamer, FileFront, Fileplay, Gamer's Hell, and WorthPlaying. On a semi-related note, the Mac edition of the gam is now available for preorder from Macgamestore, which will come with a free copy of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: Hard Evidence. A set of system requirements accompany the demo, which are clearly for the full game, including mention that Ubi's DRM requiring a persistent online connection is present in both the game and the demo. Just plain doesn't work on my machine, says that the Graphics card is unsupported.

(Windows XP - GeForce 9600GT).

The demo runs smooth and there's a lot of depth in the game. Altho I have an issue with the graphics. I just can't stand the blur/fuzzy look of the game. I've changed every setting there is..even on another PC but it still looks blurry to me.

Anyway..I somehow still enjoy the gameplay.

A PC demo from Ubi?. Inconcevible!

Still has the same POS DRM that the game will carry, so no thanks and fuck you Ubi.

I think I'm older than you FWIW I think the only franchise I really care about is Silent Hunter as the submarine simulation genre isn't exactly well represented in the market. Everything else Ubisoft makes is kinda meh. I enjoyed AC2 on the consoles before this whole mess started but it wasn't the best game I've ever played or something. I could easily do without it.

They don't. Because there is way too much money to be made with pc games. This DRM is just for their investors to show them, that Ubisoft is willing to protect its assets. Because Ubisofts view investors are more important than some angry costumers or a tiny boycott behaviour. And Ubisoft has removed copy protection from several older games lately, including Settler 6. So ... just wait, have patience, my young jedi

Any word on whether this includes more than just the first 3 tutorial missions from the beta?

I wonder why they felt that DRM was necessary for a demo.

Many cracking groups have used the demo assets to help make a crack for the final product is their rationale. There is some truth to it as well but in the end all games end up cracked period, it's just a question of time. Ubisoft feels the more time it spends uncracked will translate to more sales for them. I guess we'll see how right or wrong they are soon enough. Personally I feel like it's not worth the PR bashing they are taking everywhere. The sad thing is that they will blame this whole mess on the community and probably exit PC gaming altogether.

I would imagine as they even had it built into the beta.
