One of the NCAA venues, "The Dunk" is only 2 blocks from my office. Big tourism boost for Providence, but increased traffic can be a pain. And what'd'ya know, yesterday also started tax-wasting road destruction season, as yesterday I saw about 10 guys placing cones blocking off a lane and preparing to dig a hole on a section of Atwells that needs no work at all. Good timing especially with a big convention in town.
At least the weather has been nice around here lately. |

| Happy Birthday banddirector. 50 is just another number. Just think of it this way, in ten years you'll be saying, "oh man, I wish I were only 50", just like how right now you wish you were 40 again. Anyway that's the way I try to look at it (I'm only a couple years behind you). |

as the appeal of collegiate athletics is lost on me. Cheerleaders, man. Cheerleaders! College cheerleaders are the best of both worlds. Not too old that they've gone pro, and you don't have to feel dirty about leering at them!

Where you live (or were raised) has alot to do with it. It's no secret that college sports isn't a big deal in the NY area (I lived there for 24 yrs) but once you leave and go to say NC (where I am now) it takes a whole new meaning.
I watch the tournament for the little school since it's always fun to root for the little guy against the big dog. |

Well, the "bought and paid for" is part of my problem. I like my pros to admit to being paid. I also don't like the mix-and-match nature of the sport that has future NBA superstars dunking over political science majors in some cases. Finally, one more problem for me is not paying enough attention to pick out any players to root for... Maybe if Brooklyn College makes the NCAA tournament one year I'll watch. |

I'm not saying everyone has to like college basketball, or college sports in general, but it surprises me when I find people who like sports but dont care for collegiate athletics.
Its no shock to me, just like in the pros, the best college athletes are bought and paid for...but as someone who works closely with college athletics, I see the heart that most of these athletes play with, and its just refreshing, especially when comparing the NBA with college ball. |
