DiRT 3 Confirmed

Edge Online has word that Codemasters is working on DiRT 3, confirming plans for the next installment in the rally racing series with Codemasters Studios vice president Gavin Cheshire. He indicates the title may be a little more British than DiRT 2: "I guess in today’s world, every day you’re dealing with people from all over the world. So it’s a British company and the last bastion of British publishing, and there is some pride in that, but it doesn’t take control of your life. It’s about the culture we’ve created and making the best games you can. Dirt 2: brilliant game but it’s all American accents, so maybe we’re a little over the top with those. Maybe we should fly the flag a bit more."

Yeah id have droped on Grid 2.

I can't see dirt 3 not being more of the same. They pretty much nailed the format, you know that the graphics won't/can't be any better, they'll use the same engine for one, and with cross platform development an improved pc look will be as noticable as the *cough Dx11 enhancements.

The only room for movement would be in the games shortcomings, aka tracks/cars to go with.

Dirt 2's a great game n'all (outstanding) but it lacked in those 2 areas. They have more ground to cover with a grid 2 release, from a gamers view anyhow.

Sounds great. DiRT2 is an absolute blast and toning down some of the American accents sounds like a reasonable move.

All I know is that DiRT2 is a ton of fun...nothing like screaming down a narrow muddy canyon road at 150mph and giving the guy in front of you just a leeeeetle nudge to encourage them out of your way (preferably into the way of a 15-ton boulder).

Happy to hear there will be another sequel.

Man...I'm gonna have to go home and get my Subaru muddy, now.

Oh please add ice racing. How I miss the ice/snow series from RallySports Challenge games.

I agree with Tanto, I'd love to see a sequel to GRID.

I have nothing against Dirt2, in fact I just managed to get my second online Ranked win on Shibuya terminal. Not sure what "teenage supidity" ochen is referring to in the game, unless you're referring to chatty players online (which there are next to zero on the PC). Or is it the surprising lack of solitary clock-racing, leaning more toward rallycross than rally?

I am happy with this news. I can't stand the teenage stupidity of Dirt2. Its a shame because the game is really good as an arcade, but as a Rally game, I prefer Dirt1.

Sweet. Would be cool if they made it an open world racer like Test Drive Unlimited.
