Colin McRae DiRT 2 Patches

The manual versions of the first patches for Colin McRae DiRT 2 are now available to update Codemasters' rally racing sequel to version 1.1, following the release of Steam updates last week. There's one patch with support for the English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish languages, which is mirrored on AtomicGamer, Gamer's Hell, The Patches Scrolls, and WorthPlaying; and there's also a separate Polish language patch on AtomicGamer, Gamer's Hell, and The Patches Scrolls. The patch notes follow.

Oh, I played the entire 100-event single player campaign. It's a GFWL title tho, making you either log in, or have to start over the first time you want to play online.

Being on Steam, I have really no choice. The new problems are visual only, but amazingly distracting after seeing the game run with everything right. The only upside is the framerate is liquidly smooth now, since my video card is only doing half the work.

I do have the steam version, it was $20.
It's twice that price on Steam now and has been for months aside from one weekend sale. Gogamer has Dirt 2 for $25 regular price. It was $10.90 on sale, but stock ran out.

Also, backing it down to an older version means you can't play it online, making that a rather pointless thing to do.
The single-player mode isn't pointless. Career mode is one of the highlights of the game. Not everyone only plays online.

Half Elf:
The multiplayer's pretty decent, except that you can lose all of your progress at random if you play online.

I do have the steam version, it was $20. The game still WORKS, it just took a huge step back from being the visual showcase they intended it to be. Also, backing it down to an older version means you can't play it online, making that a rather pointless thing to do.

On a side note, this problem isn't guaranteed. A co-worker of mine doesn't have these issues, but he's also running a dx-11 video card. His screen DOES shrink by 20% every time he runs the game (but only if he's using the HDMI out to his tv, if he uses the VGA out it works fine).

Just waiting for them to put out the patch that fixes all the things they broke. Unlike most games that scream "I need a patch!", This one worked almost flawlessly UNTIL they patched it. Only the savegame corruption issue remains, and they didn't even try to fix that part. They blame it on your hard drive, yet its GUARANTEED to happen the first time you run a multiplayer race. So, the game causes your hard drive to malfunction when you play online?

Well if you were smart enough not to get the Steam version of the game, simply uninstall or revert the patch and keep playing the game as before until a real fix is released.

Unfortunately, they aren't stating the OTHER things this patch does.

-It may cause your game to shrink your screen by 20% upon startup, every time.

-It may cause your view distances to be irreversably lowered, to the point where things pop in 10 feet from your car and distant objects pop in and out of existence. This is not alterable in the in-game graphics options nor the hardware settings file.

-It still doesn't fix the random "corruption" of your save files when you play an online race.

Very frustrating when the game is visually HEAVILY compromised by the new patch. No response from Codemasters on their forums about the view distance issues, and a lot of people are having them.
