MS Demos Cross-Platform Gaming

Microsoft's Eric Rudder demonstrated a simple Indiana Jones platformer game at TechEd Middle East, showing the game running on Windows 7 using the keyboard, a Windows Phone 7 prototype using the accelerometer and touch screen, and on an Xbox 360 using the game controller, reports Engadget. There's a video of this on the YouTube where Eric demonstrates how you can pick up your progress on the game on any of the three platforms and shows how such a game is developed in Microsoft Visual Studio and that 90% of the code is common to all three devices.

Heh. Consoles have already impacted PC gaming with simplified controls, limited maps and textures, etc...now they're gonna make it so you can play from a phone.

On one hand, I weep for the potential harm this will do to some games that could have been something...on the other hand, an evil little part of my brain is filled with glee just imagining the first time I hear a console fan complain about how their favorite sequel was ruined by being dumbed down.

And before the flames start, I own a console, I think they have their place...I just think that cross-platform is a heinously bad idea for anything but the most casual of games.
