Infinity Ward Heads Axed?

G4tv.com reports on drama at Infinity Ward that includes the apparent departure of studio heads Vince Zampella and Jason West amid allegations of "breaches of contract and insubordination." The story began with G4 reporting that a bunch of "bouncer-types" showed up at the Call of Duty developer's offices following a meeting Activision held with Zampella and West (reportedly the pair were not seen in the offices following the meet). This was followed by Kotaku showing a shot of Jason West's Facebook status reading "Jason West is drinking. Also, no longer employed." Likewise, Jason West's LinkedIn Profile now lists his tenure at Infinity Ward as January 2001 March 2010. Details on exactly what went down are still vague, but the most significant clue seems to be in an Activision SEC filing stating: "The Company is concluding an internal human resources inquiry into breaches of contract and insubordination by two senior employees at Infinity Ward. This matter is expected to involve the departure of key personnel and litigation. At present, the Company does not expect this matter to have a material impact on the Company."

I disapprove of all this "ActiBliz" flaming.

Blizzard is happy sitting in the corner playing with himself whereas Activision is the loud kid who pisses everyone off.

Nah Bludd, they're prestiging, no need to start up another studio. They just gotta start at level 1 and earn their Activision perks back.

They should just go create another studio and have people from IW follow them there, just like what happened at 2015.

Not familiar enough with "Zampella and West" to get to up in arms about all this. Would like to know what "breaches of contract and insubordination." that means and what that SEC filing is all about.

Looking forward to DLC for MW2 but I don't know why we haven't seen any yet...hopefully this won't delay that kind of stuff. Least we can look forward to Treyarch's CoD game sooner or later.

No strong feelings here one way or the other. I continue to enjoy MW2 on the 360. Both sides of the ded server issue have merit. No easy answers there. If you look at the prevailing market for games, developing for the console market is simply a no-brainer.

If greed is the only driving motive, then yeah.

I realize game makers/publishers are in business to make money, but there was a time when love of the game also played a factor. Blizzard built an empire on it (and, of course, now are owned by Activition...*sigh*).

It would Be funny if Zampella and West went to Activision HQ armed to the teeth and recreated the airport level in MW2.

I feel very, very sorry for you.

If its true that those 2 were against dedicated servers then I am not sad they were "fired".

Do you respect them for completely screwing the platform they began on?

Actually I don't let game development decisions have such an effect on me that I hold so much hate for an individual person. If I don't like it, I don't buy it. Such as MW2.

I also don't hold any one platform up to such a high regard that I feel "screwed" if things change. I prefer PC gaming and if I don't like the way a game plays on that platform, I either won't play it or I'll play it on a platform that it does play right.

However I do have a problem with large corporations such as EA & Activision bullying and abusing it's employees. In cases such as this, where I don't have all the information, I'm willing to give the employee the benefit of the doubt over the corporation.

Their own official boards never get answered, the glitches continue and to add insult to injury they completely gutted cage match by making it 3rd person only? Huh? Who in fucks name asked for that?
No dedicated server support and lets not forget they charged $59.99 for our lovely xbox port.

Seek the outside, sunshine, fresh air and human contact. You are far too emotional over a game.

Before you take sides, remember that West and Zampella are the ones against implementing dedicated servers.

"West takes a shot at the motives behind some of the outrage, noting that there's money to made by selling dedicated servers and adspace on them: "It's a little dubious. Some of the people complaining are complaining with their pocketbook.

Again and again during our conversation, West and Zampella hammer the point that hardcore PC players lose very little to this change relative to the returns that casual to moderate fans will see. Clans can set up private matches to do their training or what have you; all they lose is the ability to customize the game on a deeper level with mods and such. Infinity Ward sees the addition of solid matchmaking and community support like IW-run tournaments to the PC as a huge win, and not something that could be done under the old system."
