A new patch is available for Mass Effect 2 to update BioWare's RPG sequel to version 1.01. The 42 MB patch is available from the BioWare Social Network, and it is mirrored on ActionTrip, AtomicGamer, The Patches Scrolls, and WorthPlaying. Also, the update for the Steam edition is now automatically available the next time you login to Steam. The complete patch notes follow.

  • In rare cases, some single core users may notice dialog lines in certain conversations may be delayed up to a few seconds.
  • Fixed an issue where it appears ammunition can be picked up, but can't.
  • Fixed an issue where all Codex entries were marked as 'viewed', even if the player chose not to view them.
  • Fixed an issue where weapon icons are re-organized after downloadable content is used.
  • Fixed an issue where pressing F9 after the mission completion screen reset Shepard to Level 1.
  • Fixed an issue where remapping the right mouse button blocks camera control in the command HUD.
  • Fixed an issue where remapping the 'use' command affects the decryption minigame.
  • Fixed an issue where users were not prompted to restart when logging in to a different EA Online account.
  • Fixed an issue where movies do not play in DLC.
  • It is recommended that players reset their keyboard mapping to default values to ensure proper vehicle control.
  • Added useful messaging during the ME1 save game import.
  • Weapon icon for henchmen never changes from Collector Assault Rifle.
  • Czech language - Issues with Czech localization (subtitles) were amended, all text was corrected and improved.
  • Fixed an issue where the Mass Effect 2 launcher was being associated with files that have no extension.
  • Fixed an issue where uninstalling the game under Windows Vista or Windows 7 might uninstall Mass Effect 1.

It absolutely prompted him. It would have also prompted him asking if he wanted to uninstall Mass Effect, with no mention of Mass Effect 2. That prompt exists within the uninstaller as we are using the same installer/uninstaller system for Jade, ME1, DA and ME2. It is tragic that it happened, but there were two gates that he would have had to go through before the game and the saves were removed and none of the information presented to him was incorrect. It is just too bad that we never thought of testing uninstalling ME2 with ME1 installed. It just wasn't something we thought of.

Loved ME2 Derek, just one question. Is it possible for you to relay to someone there that a helmet toggle would make people actually use the items you guys release?

Beautiful!

C'mon, loved geniuses! You can do it!

What's Derek saying? I can't understand him - his helmet stays on all the time, even in cutscenes.

Especially as Liara kissed me right through it. By which I mean that her face went right through the helmet but it's great at stopping bullets, I'm sure.

Oh and as FemShep my hair was fused with the back of it. It appears that Bioware's pretty insistent on their vision of you as a bald, unloved douche-bag. =P

Stop fighting kids. None of you is really at fault. =)

I understand how you might not notice that the "Mass Effect 2 Uninstaller" is talking about Mass Effect 1 instead. It's just not something you're looking for.

I also understand how Bioware could overlook that bug. It gotta be the most stupid Windows bug I've ever heard of.

That said I'm kinda disappointed that the patch doesn't fix the affinity issue that causes 10x longer load times on some dual core machines (especially as it's trivial to fix).

I also hope that we're gonna see a user interface fix some time, that enables the mouse wheel and double-clicking. Every time I have to use the scroll bars and little arrows to get to a selection and then go click accept I get the feeling that the game is laughing at me for not using a gamepad.

You are so terribly wrong. Especially the part of your quote I made bold.

In the uninstaller I selected Mass Effect 2 to uninstall. After that I WAS prompted to keep or not to keep my save games, but I cannot recall whether it mentioned the title of the game during that prompt. And also, even if it was mentioned and said "Mass Effect" without the "2" I would've suggested it meant "Mass Effect 2" anyway.

I laugh at your attempt to make it sound it actually kinda was sorta my fault I got fucked

PS: Bioware could've aswell write down instructions how to save the ME1 profile that was imported into ME2 (that failed to uninstall anyway). You see, I was more than motivated to somehow save my lvl 60 character profile that got deleted so I was digging around in the ME2 maps a bit and I actually found the ME1 profile in there. I was lucky and relieved. That's probably why I remained "cool about it". All I had to do after that was redirect the Save Import library in the ME2 launcher and voila.

Yeah, I remember the thread in the official forums where that was discovered. They never did say sorry to the guy. He was pretty cool about it, considering the uninstall also removed his saved games without prompting him.

Probably one of the slickest, best produced games I've played in recent memory.

The art direction, attention to detail, writing, voice acting....everything is so beyond what most other dev studios are capable of nowadays that it'll be hard to go back to other games that I have on deck.

Agreed. After I get through my gaming backlog (damn Steam holiday sales...) I'll go back and take ForgedReality's advice. I played through ME1 as a Vanguard taking the Paragon path and I'm doing the same thing through ME2. I might start fresh from ME1 and take the Renegade path as a Sentinel through both games.

I suppose that's my high mark for a game; when I'm already thinking about the next play through before I've finished the first one.

I'm sure they sent him out a "care package." If they didn't, well, I guess I've gotten spoiled by devs like Valve who actually seem to care about their demographic. Okay, let's not kid ourselves. The suits never know what goes on in their customer base, let alone their games. >:\

That is actually a bug that Microsoft introduced in Vista and 7. We keep our uninstallers in a common location and if you don't encase the full path to the Uninstaller in double-quotes, Windows will just pick another random executable from that directory and run it, instead of the executable the you explicitly entered. It is pretty crazy when you tell Windows to run 'Uninstall Mass Effect 2.exe' and Windows decides to run 'Uninstall Mass Effect.exe'

That's not a bug, Derek, that's a feature! Microsoft saves you from having to specify which specific .exe you want to run. It saves time!

I am on my second playthrough. The first time, I played on normal difficulty level, and maxed the paragon, and got maybe 1/4 renegade.

This time, I'm aiming to fill my renegade meter. I wanna see how fucked up I can get Shepard's face to look. Also, playing on insanity, the highest difficulty. Holy crap. This really upstages the combat, lemme tell you. Far more challenging, and, I think, a lot more fun in the end. The combat on normal is just kind of blah, and I almost never died. Totally the opposite on Insane. I recommend you guys try it out.

I'm going for the achievement you get when you play through at the highest difficulty without lowering it.

Vehicle control is probably referring to the spaceship during the star navigation portions of the game.
