No Further Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising DLC

A post to the Codemasters Forums by Community Manager Ian "Helios" Webster reveals that there are no plans to issue further downloadable content for Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising following the upcoming release of the Overwatch DLC for the PS3 edition of the modern military shooter. They explain that post-release technical support will continue on as before, but that they are already looking ahead to their next game instead of more DLC: "We are sorry if Dragon Rising and the two DLCs released to date have left you wanting even more, but in the grand scheme of future plans and schedules the vast majority of the team are already busy planning the future of modern combat." Thanks The Patches Scrolls.

I have never been that disappointed by a development team before. They promised so much PC awesomeness, complexity, realism, nice graphics, PC controls, etc, but we only got another dumbed down console shooter that ruthlessly exploited the IP name. And still, in their arrogance, they openly made fun of ArmA 2 players by calling them "ArmAteurs" in (only?) German magazine ads and only got off their "this is going to be a revolutionary military sim" attitude just before the release of the game.
I wont forget that, Codemasters, ever.

Had high hopes for this game, but the interface, sluggish command controls and lack of any kind of custom squad kitting really put a damper on it.

Oh well, I can wait for the next one to come along.

I don't think they charged for the DLC on the PC.

not that anyone would pay good money for more multiplayer maps when they couldn't deliver on the functioning back end (dedicated servers etc).

I'd rather they move on to their next game then join the nickel and dime bandwagon that PC gaming has turned into. Not a fan of their games, but I will applaud them for sticking to the old school route.

Too bad that this game is fail. I would move on, too.

Political freedom can only be preceded by economic freedom which is preceded by monetary freedom.

We’ve got some very ambitious plans with DLC – our first pack is coming up in a matter of weeks. We’ll also have title updates coming up because once the game’s out there, we’ll need to get feedback from the people who are playing it, and if need be make a few adjustments and tweaks.

Our team are already prototyping all sorts of stuff to be released as DLC and we’re really excited about it. It’s a really different type of market now; I remember five or six years ago, you’d get a game, finish it, put it back on the shelf and that was it. But now it’s almost as though the game’s release is just the beginning, really. Ours is a game that lends itself very well to expansion – there will be weapons packs, map packs – all sorts of things we can do to get our product out there.

These guys really deliver.

re: they're too busy playing Bad Company 2

I can't imagine them trying to making another Flashpoint game any time soon.
