Today marks the eleventh birthday for Blammo, the proprietary news database that powers this site. Here are some Blammo statistics: The database now contains over 106,000 entries, over 1,500 articles, and well over a half-million forum posts. The SQL server here is currently at 75 consecutive days of uptime, and is approaching a half-billion queries (464,948,097 to be precise) during that 2.5 month period. All this speaks of the hard work of original programmers furn and Bagpuss and the yeoman effort of Frans to maintain and improve the operation in the ensuing years.

The 9/11 one was in bad taste, my opinion. Most things you can mess with, the twin towers (though that was a forged image they were parodying) isn't one of them.

If you're referring to the one where the starship is about to hit the building, that's a play off this old hoax:

Yeah, that was absolutely magical! I'm really curious how he did all the signs for the shops and billboards and such, it's all so authentic looking. Really amazing stuff!

Those models are crazy neat. Reminds me a lot of my city museum's miniature model of the city from decades ago. The photography tricks were excellent too.
