Star Wars: The Old Republic Updates, Editorial

The Star Wars: The Old Republic Website has a new article on the planet Taris, which was razed by the Sith Lord Darth Malak during the Jedi Civil War. They have a Holonet record for Taris accompanied by a video and some screenshots. Also, as noted here, the twenty-sixth issue of Threat of Peace offers the latest installment in the webcomic tie-in with BioWare's upcoming MMORPG. Finally, there's an editorial on MMORPG.COM where a longtime Star Wars and MMORPG fan expresses his reservations about the game.

The Sith are 'so' going to dominate PvP in this game. The devs so clearly prefer that side as it's all they talk about. Every new video is sith dominating another planet or another battle where they destroy the Republic.

That's the setting of the game. The aftermath of a a surprise invasion by the Sith against an unprepared Republic. Of course it's going to have a Sith- lant in terms of who wins and loses. But that's just story. It has nothing to do with PvP balance.

Half of last year all they talked about was Republic. I actually did the numbers on the updates and it comes out pretty much even. (Approximately 14 updates for the Republic, 12 for the Empire, and 77 neutral or purely story updates, thus far.) Plus polls on the official forums are a dead heat in terms of faction popularity, with a slight Republic leaning.

Do you honestly believe the developers are sitting around going "Hurr hurr, we're gonna make our PvP so terrible and ruin our game so that we can win a few more PvP matches at home!"?

Really now.

If you don't like where gaming is heading, stop giving your money to the people who are taking it in that direction.
