PC Mass Effect 2 Dual Core Fix

As noted in posts such as these on the BioWare Social Network, Giant Bomb, and GameSpot, owners playing the PC edition of Mass Effect 2 on multi-core CPUs (likely most users, since the game's minimum requirements call for a dual core CPU) have experienced long load times going between decks of the Normandy in BioWare's RPG sequel. This can be addressed by setting a system's CPU affinity to use just one core, which of course is going to impede performance elsewhere in the multi-threaded game. Now Playwrite offers a small utility called Mass Affinity to work around this problem, as when it is used to launch the game, it will automatically change a system's CPU affinity back and forth to provide shorter load times between levels while still maintaining maximum performance for gameplay.

Impressive.

Scathing at times, but not without reasonable suggestions on improvement.

The people having the problem probably don't know how to maintain their PC.

I mean, think of the potential "carry over" romances in ME3? On the male side you've got Ashley, Tali, Miranda, Kelly, Zack and Liara. Then you've got the same amount on the female side.

Thats TWELVE different romance follow-ups they have to put into ME3.

While I loved the idea of the ME2 ending - having some some actual tension about who will survive added an extra edge - but I'm dissapointed that we won't see characters like Garrus or Tali in the ME3 squad when they've been such familar faces since the start.

Maybe I missed something, but what about the ending (nevermind the fact that there are so many different ones) that precludes Tali, or Garrus, for being in ME3? Other than taking the route that gets them killed? Seeing as you can go to each extreme with everything in between, there's nothing stopping any of the characters being in ME3 and part of your squad or Paramour options.

Page 12? I'm looking at it right now. Unless the hard version of the book is different than the digital one, but that seems unlikely.

It's a pic of Tali's new suit on the left, vs Tali in a different suit in the middle. Then a pic of the back of someone's head (which could be a drell head), and then two pics of faces. The right one seems a drell face, but the left one could easily be a Quarian. It certainly follows the shape of their helmets.

I think those are both early sketches of Thane. Note the lack of a pronounced nose. One of the few features of Tali's face that you can see through the mask is that she has a relatively human-like nose. The eyes don't match either.

Yes, Thane sketches. Not Tali.

T'is concept art, but it somewhat matches the outlined final version. I doubt it'd be that human-like in the manner shown, but it's probably close to it.

Well, that's a rather random thread.

I hope they do unmask her in ME3, and all you freaks can go "!!!!OMFG!!!!!" when you see her extreme butterface, and wish they'd just left the mask on her.

If they model her after her voice actress (like they did with Miranda), I think people will be very pleased. Liz Sroka is terribly cute.

Btw, I'm pretty sure that the pic of the unmasked Quarian in the "ME2 art book" (that you get with the deluxe/collector's edition) is of Tali.

Oh my god I have that book! I just never looked past the third page because I was afraid of spoilers! After that I never touched it again, it's being proud.. in the box.. that's standing proud on my subwoover.. staring at me.

I'm not sure I'll have the guts to check that art.

And yes, Liz Sroka is terribly cute indeed. <3

Knock on wood, but I'm on a quad core and have no load time issues on the Normandy decks. I never even see the elevator move on the little load screen before it's already loaded.

I had terrible load times in ME2 at first, then happened to reinstalled Win 7 from the RC to my legit copy and suddenly all load times were gone. Though that's probably just a sign of how bloated I'd let the RC install get.

Oh, those were terrible indeed, that soured and almost aborted my dash to finish DA in the week before the ME2 release. The affinity fix didn't even seem to work reliably and load times in general were much slower.
Haven't experienced the issue in ME2 yet, but I'm also still using the 9.12 catalyst on a phenom and an ancient hd3870.

It is a weird bug. Load times can be longer than 40sec(upwards of 2min) on dual core, I've had it happen a few times. Seems more related to the normandy then anything.

I just got into the habit of tabbing over and doing it manually via taskmanager.
