You're mostly right. The improvements of AC2 are mostly in presentation

I don't really agree with this, they added quite a bit of depth in terms of combat options and avoidance of combat entirely if you choose. Either way it's an excellent title, made the Giantbomb top 3 of 2009 list and it's basically better than the first title in every way. Their loss, /shrug

You're mostly right. The improvements of AC2 are mostly in presentation. If you hated AC1, trust me on this: AC2 will not appeal to you. There are some additional/revamped mechanics but fundamentally speaking, it's still the same game AC1 was.

And with that said, AC2 was easily one of my top10s for 2009.

They spent six months porting it so I think it's safe to say it will be a better port than the first was.

The first AC took about five months to reach the PC. In any case, when you delay a port for six months and then charge $60, you're really asking for lackluster sales.

Facts:

1) Delayed ports generally don't sell well.
2) Delayed ports that cost as much as brand new console games generally don't sell well.

The inclusion of the DLC is nice but it should be considered as compensation for the six month delay, not added to the price.

A co-worker played AC2 on his 360 and he says it's MUCH better than the first one. They tried hard to remove the repetitiveness.

But did they fix the fundamentally shallow gameplay mechanics? Like holding down two buttons to have your character automatically run, jump, climb, swing, hop, etc? Or making stealth more involved than holding down the stealth button while walking past guards or sitting on benches to avoid pursuit? Or making the combat more involved than holding down Block and pressing Counter whenever enemies attack one at a time?

My greatest complaint with AC1 wasn't the repetition, it was the utter lack of depth and challenge. It was the epitome of style over substance. People proclaim that AC2 is a much better game but it seems like that's only because it has more variety (and not necessarily depth) than the first one.

Judging by comments on these forums about this game, people:

- hated the first game but want the second one just because

- want the superior version faster AND cheaper
- Hate Ubisoft if they don't comply but love them if they do
- want the DLC packed in
- Don't want the DLC packed in if it means having to pay for it.

I actually feel bad for Ubisoft here, damned if they do and damned if they don't. AC2 is an excellent game which improves upon the original in every imaginable way for the record, you guys are missing out but oh well. Maybe next time Ubisoft just won't release a PC version at all.

Dude, stop crying. Seriously. Your reasoning why people should buy a PC game "Otherwise we might never see another PC GAME! OH NOES!" is a bunch of bullshit. It's exactly the same kind of nonsensical bleating that idiot from gamerswithjobs whined about a few months ago, how we should buy zero day DLC for Dragon Age, because that funds stuff like Mirror's Edge.

Being forced to buy DLC goes too far for me. Ergo, no sale. I'm glad you happily bend over for whatever a publisher chooses to saddle you with. Others don't. Stop whining about it.

Actually... should'nt we be thanking microsoft for the $60 trend? They started it with the 360 games. I understand inflation happens and all. But when it comes to digital downloads, that was supposed to be a part of the selling point in the days was the lower cost due to not having to pay for packaging and what have you.

Oh well. Most stuff still lingers at 50 or less which is cool, but this is why I dont own a lot of 360 games. 60 bucks is still more then the average boxed and digital pc game.

Heck, GoGamer has it currently for $40. I think the game will be normally priced on release. This isn't a Modern Warfare 2 high demand game so I really doubt the $60 will stick anywhere.

Only if you want to exaggerate things.

Personally, I was playing other things when the original game came out, but it was on my list of things to look at. However, immediately after release, I started hearing about a number of bugs in the games, I ended up watching a long YouTube clip of various glitches, and then I observed a few of them at a friend's house (on the console version.) Combined with the repeated reviews talking about the empty, repetitive gameplay, I disregarded the game until it was going to be discounted.

I ultimately purchased it on steam as a combination of a $20 (and maybe even less?) price as well as my general boredom at the time. I will say that, on the PC version, I really did not see the glitches I had seen early on, but the comments about the gameplay were true. Thief this wasn't.

If anything, it spoke to potential, but it had a lot of design flaws and I was not amazed by the game in any way; I thought it was an okay game, but I definitely did not understand the hype and original sales.

Come to today, this game has fared significantly better in the reviews and has some good word of mouth. The change for me is that I was willing to buy it on day one for a $50.00 price. Mind you, as previously stated, I was kind of hoping they would toss in the DLC for free given the ever ridiculous wait for the PC port.

So my change was moving from an end of life Steam purchase to a day one discount, but I'll be damned if I am going to pay $60 on day one for late port digital release.
And at least we're fighting for something rather than caving to the corporate gods.
Wanting expansion-like DLC; not $5-$10 crap cut from the game,

So its $45 for the game and $7.50 for each DLC they are including in. Depending on the gameplay time of the DLC, the total package may be worth it. Not having a choice to include the DLC is another matter.

...what?

I waited the eight years for this game to be ported and now they're telling us it will be $60? Even with the gameplay fixes, I'll be damned if I am paying that.

Joke about my naivety, but I was kind of hoping the $50 price tag would include the DLC given how long its been. But now? I won't buy it at all until it goes on some type of sale.
How about the transparent version? No purchase at all.
Loving how publishers are pushing for a 20% price increase plus paid DLC,

Um Mouse and Keyboard were fine for the PC version. Also AC1 underwent support for DX10, and was flawless on the PC. So yes, the PC version WAS worth the wait if you did not want to purchase the 360 version.

Gonna have to disagree. The controls for the PC version of AC1 were absolute shit and I've not played a game with such bad controls in a long time. Whatever took them so long to port in AC1, it wasn't the control scheme. That had to have taken an hour or two, and maybe some dice to randomly decide a few things.

AC2 will be a Steam xmas purchase for $5.

"People" are always going want what they don't have. We come here to discuss, bitch, debate these things. Generally, if your comment is reasonable, it can become a worthy discussion with others. So you'll always have people who want the world, which is what you've basically listed there. Fortunately Ubisoft will judge whether they make PC versions of their games or not by virtue of their sales and not by the list you've made. Although I do believe there are some other types of reasonable people than what you've highlighted. *edit* As Prez perfectly demonstrated. Though he doesn't represent everyone here, I agree with everything he said. So that makes two of us so far.

I don't think it's reasonable to charge a full price for digital content, let alone a hiked price for digital content. I'm also not digging the direction DLC is going and the way it's being used. DLC was questionable by itself (is it truly additional content or missing original content?), but now it seems they're using it to manipulate sales.

Judging by comments on these forums about this game, people:

- hated the first game but want the second one just because

I hated the way the first one was so close to greatness but fell short with some terrible design decisions. I am excited as all get out to play the sequel as it is by all accounts an improvement in every way.

- want it ported at release time but also want the "superior" version despite the PC version making probably 5% of total title revenue

I am okay with waiting for the superior version, and given the nature of the PC strengths over consoles, any game ported half-way decently will end up being the superior version. Kudos to the dev's for making the first port so well. That is a major reason why I am anxious to play the sequel - I am counting on continued excellence in porting.

- want the superior version faster AND cheaper

I'm okay with waiting, so I don't need it faster, especially if the game ends up more refined for it. But I am not going to expect to pay the same for a version I had to wait an extra half a year to play. I see the elongated wait for a superior version as a wash at best.

- Hate Ubisoft if they don't comply but love them if they dont

Ever since they ditched Starforce, I have been very proud to continue to support Ubisoft. They have also continued to support PC genres that others have abandoned, such as flight sims and naval sims, for which I love them. Their Rainbow Six and Splinter Cell titles are also excellent. If I don't get what I want from them every time, I might be disappointed, but I'm a long way from hating them.

- want the DLC packed in
- Don't want the DLC packed in if it means having to pay for it.

If it is being thrown in as an extra "Thanks for your patience, PC gamers", then I would love to see it packaged in. If it's going to drive the price up, however, I'd just as soon have the choice of whether or not I pay for it.

AC2 is an excellent game which improves upon the original in every imaginable way for the record, you guys are missing out but oh well.

I'm not missing out; just deferring the experience until such time as the price is more to my liking.
