Out of the Blue

So after having the obvious point made for me that birds don't need feeding during the summer, I suspended my bird-feeding operation in the backyard until a few weeks ago, as it's now slim pickings for food out there. Unfortunately the slim pickings are impacting the squirrels as well, as they have resumed their assault on my stores of bird seed. The seed is in a metal garbage can after the little rodents ate through the lid on the plastic one I was using, but now they've figured out how to get the lid off. I placed a chunk of cinderblock on the lid, and they've still managed to get in there. I'll have to find a more effective way to keep them out, but in the meantime I'm tempted to rig a camera out there just so I can watch the process of getting the lid off the can.

Squirrels are quite resourceful.

I've observed them doing things that I would not think they were capable of.

I have squirrels do my taxes every year. Always get a rebate.

edit: and i'd rather have the extended versions of LotR on bluray over the SW trilogy.

Regular editions next year - already on presale on Amazon, I hear.

Extended editions might be out around the time The Hobbit his theaters.

Didn't Lucas say, when releasing the DVDs, that the reason he was releasing the Special versions is because the original versions got water-damaged and can't be restored?

Whether it's true or not, I doubt he's going to suddenly say "oh yeah, that was a lie. Here's a Blu-Ray version!"

I'm sure he will HAPPILY release SW on Blu-Ray. After all, all the SW nerds will happily quintuple dip and buy it again. But the originals? I doubt it.

To be fair, other than "Han shoots first" and the shitty Jabba in A New Hope, the lounge singers in Jabba's palace, and the fact that Luke's voice-over with R2 in Dagobah was changed, I like the other changes.

My suggestion:

1.) get a metal garbage can

2.) one 12 volt car battery

3.) run wires from can to the battery

4.) put a chair by the window place battery next to you

5.) wait until Mr. Squirrel starts his shit then connect wires to battery

6.) Mr. Squirrel learns a valuable lesson in property rights law.

Those are some industrious little rodents. You should capture them and sell them to a circus.

Or, even better, train them to be little locksmiths, so that when someone locks themselves out of their homes or cars, the rodents will get in and open the door. This could be a goldmine! GOLD, I TELL YOU!

"License to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations. Man, free to kill gophers at will. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior firepower and superior intelligence. And that's all she wrote." Good luck Mr. Blue!

I don't see how a squirrel could possibly move a piece of cinderblock. Must be a raccoon, dog, or deer. Something like that.
