| DX2 is ample reason to believe they'll screw this up badly. That along with the fact that they don't seem to understand what people liked about the first one, and the usual emphasis on appealing to the console crowd, pretty much ensures that DX3 will be complete crap. |

| Console FPS games tend to be more action oriented in general but you're correct in the sense that Deus Ex can be played many different ways. You can go into every situations guns blazing or totally non-lethal. People mainly get upset because they think developers will remove the choice that the latter provides. |

Yeah, and all they had to do was turn it into a completely different type of game. If that's the route they're taking with DX3, then count me out. I see what you are saying, but DX is a FPS, which is arguably the most popular console genre. There isn't a need to turn it into a completely different type of game to find success on consoles |

I don't know, look at Fallout. They were able to resurrect Fallout which was originally a traditional PC RPG, and turn it into a big console hit. Yeah, and all they had to do was turn it into a completely different type of game. If that's the route they're taking with DX3, then count me out. |

Console gamers don't give two shits about this game, so why should Eidos attempt to sell it to them? Same reason why they ported DX to the PS2 and designed DX2 and Thief 3 for the Xbox. |

I would normally agree, but we don't know what the budget is for this game, or what their sales targets are. Deus Ex also has zero name brand recognition outside of a subset of PC gamers.
It's not like it's Modern Warfare 3 or something. Console gamers don't give two shits about this game, so why should Eidos attempt to sell it to them? Console sales could amount to jack for a title like this. Eidos can't sell stuff on its name alone, like Bioware or some other companies can.
Remember that neither DX1 nor DX2 sold particularly well. Deus Ex in fact only became popular over the years as a kind of "Wow this is cool, why did no one buy it?" type thing. I don't know, look at Fallout. They were able to resurrect Fallout which was originally a traditional PC RPG, and turn it into a big console hit. I think DX3 has the potential to be huge, and I just can't see any publisher severely limiting its potential sales by cutting out consoles. Anecdotally, most of my friends, even the ones who aren't hardcore PC gamers, have at least heard of Deus Ex.

I call B.S. as well. No company in this day in age would make a big budget fps title exclusivley for the pc. That wouldn't make a profit. Too complicated? What, like Dragon Age? I'll bet the house on this one. I would normally agree, but we don't know what the budget is for this game, or what their sales targets are. Worst case scenario, which is becoming the norm, is the game designed specifically for consoles and then ported to the PC. I think this is the most likely scenario for DX3. Designing a game for a console and then porting to PC is much easier than designing for PC and porting to console. |

It's silly to think they would leave all those potential console sales on the table. The best case scenario would be a situation along the lines of dragon age, where the game is designed from the ground up for the PC and then ported to consoles. The more likely scenario is the game being built form the ground up to support all platforms. Worst case scenario, which is becoming the norm, is the game designed specifically for consoles and then ported to the PC. |

| I find it really hard to believe this game won't have a console port given how the first game performed as an exclusive. |

Actually, they patched it to include multiplayer, not that many people actually used it. At the time shipping a game without multiplayer, even if the style of the game didn't lend itself to it, would invoke all kinds of nerd rage so they bowed to the pressure and patched it in.
It would be kind of like releasing a game today without dedicated server support or releasing one last year with harsh DRM. |

i really don't care for square's excessive use of cutscenes. it was the reason i stopped playing final fantasy after 7. and if square has their hand in it you can almost guarantee it will be on consoles. oh yeah, the storyline will be linear too, instead of multiple endings.

Even though the console market is larger, consoles are getting more and more dated again as the years go by with the similar games piling up on the same tired unchanged platform. I'm not surprised that some developers might want to take full advantage of things like the latest and up and coming video cards, multi-core CPUs, or DX11/Win7. If not Deus Ex 3, then some other AAA title will start the PC game resurgence until the "nextgen" consoles show up again. It is possible and has happened before, but I think Crysis scared a LOT of publishers and developers away from this. While profitable, Crysis failed to do exactly what you described, bring the PC market back to the forefront. For Eidos, under their new console-centric owners, to attempt it again would be... surprising.
That said, you are right, every console generation people act as if the PC is dead and then towards the end of the console cycle a PC game comes out that blows the consoles away and makes people upgrade. I always assumed that would be Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3 this time, but it could come earlier with Deus Ex 3 if this is true. It's not like we don't get massive AAA PC exclusives, we do, just not in genres consoles do well. If Eidos thinks Deus Ex 3 can be profitable on PC alone, they could take the risk... |

| The likelihood of DX3 being a PC-exclusive is essentially zero. I don't believe it's been confirmed at all. I think PC is the only announced platform thus far but 360 and PS3 will inevitably be announced once the hype train begins. Kinda like with Far Cry 2. |
