Been having alot of fun with MW2. Haven't had any problems with matchmaking. In fact, finding games on IW.net was near instantaneous every time, faster than L4D.

The dissident group cries the loudest, but as always are the minority.

Time after time after time I would get killed and, through the eyes of my opponent thanks to killcam, notice that there was about a half second difference between what I saw and what actually happened. Then I'd hit the TAB button and sure enough, that guy has 4 bars and I only have 3. Ridiculous. I have a fast enough internet connection (2 MB up), and don't notice these latency disadvantages with other shooters, so I have to put the blame solely on IWNET.

I was seeing that as well. It was SUPER frustrating. I would fire off 3-4 rounds, and when I watched killkam, the movements I had made prior to shooting (squaring up center mass, etc) were not evident, and my gun wouldn't even fire before I got killed.......

This one quoted for your convenience:

Okay so I've put in a few hours of multiplayer over the last few days and my worst fears were confirmed consistently. Horrible latency just ruins the experience. The game measures latency by a 4 bar system, similar to a mobile phone's signal strength. So rather than seeing what your latency is as measured by miliseconds, you will see 1-4 bars. Usually 3. Very rarely in my time playing MP did I ever have 4 bars, unless I was hosting the game. I kept a close eye on other player's latencys(using the TAB button) and probably 70% of the players had 3 bars as well, with usually just 1 or 2 people having 4 bars - one of which was the player hosting the game - and a couple unfortunate fools who were somehow getting by with 2 bars or less. The person who hosts a game enjoys a SIGNIFICANT advantage over even those with 3 bars. The killcam proves it.

And it looks like Amazon removed all of the negative comments. How lame.

I see they're back...

Removing someone negative comments only enrages them further. It's like spraying ant spray on a swarm on African Honey Bees!
"...and in stonks, Fizzy Squeezy Stocklebocks leaped over Droopy Whoopy Bondfluffs, hitting 300-gigglebits to their 150-snorebucks. Meanwhile, in Whimsyland's market, the pancakes reached parity with pogo sticks."

Gamestop did as well...

Even the IW has been quoted saying that all of the signatures on the petition are not real.

Overon do you regularly read that site you linked to, SEB? I do, and it's the first time I've ever come across it referenced on another site I read.

But oddly enough it ties into this whole subject in a couple of ways.

I met the guy who writes that blog almost 10 years ago on my usual dedicated server. When I think about how different my life would be if matchmaking was always the case it just blows my mind. Detroit Counter-Strike was a powerhouse of early CS (circa 1999). It was because of that server that I started going to LAN centers (digital ops in Ann Arbor) and meeting new friends. Going to LAN parties (biggest in Michigan still MPcon.org) with my friends. After the main community servers went offline sometime in 2001/2002, my friends and I took over hosting the community with things like "Suburban Aftermath" servers and www.detroitgamers.com. My dorm mates in 2004 were 3 people that I wouldn't even know without the Detroit CS community. Now the only thing really left over from all that is my steam group which has many of the original guys as members.

Nostalgia aside, none of that would have been possible had I just been constantly thrown into random games with strangers (or friends I already knew beforehand). Pubs and devs are killing the whole community aspect just to sell a few maps. They are stifling the very things that make PC gaming what it is.

And that's just the dedicated server side of it. The damage being done by removing mods is arguably much worse. Without mods goodbye CS, goodbye TF, goodbye NS, and the countless other games that started out as free mods.

Played through 2x on the rental.
1x on Hardened (was a fun first play through, and difficult)
1x on Veteran (maybe because I knew the layout and what to expect, it was actually easier on the harder level.....weird)

Then started on some SpecOps stuff.....some of it is really cool, some of it is garbage. Kinda pissed you need 2 people for the AC130 mission. oh well. Spec Ops is really just replaying certain parts of the game over with specific terms and outcomes....thought that was a cheap cop-out, could have been a lot more (probably come in the form of DLC)

I am under the impression I will never play the game again. After two play throughs and zero need for a $60.00 CoD4 map pack for MP that is crap compared to CoD4.......it was a good rental, even though it was on console.

This game really shines in the SP story - to bad it is secondary to IW for the MP is what people really want. Someone here said it is like watching the tv show 24....I can partially agree with that.

Total playtime: 23H 58M 56S
Campaign playtime: 17H 38M 01S (100% complete)
Spec Ops playtime: 01H 48M 33S (15.9% complete)
MP playtime: 04H 32M 22S (15% compete)

First campaign play through was 8:20, second on the harder setting + finding all intel items was just a tad longer. funny. Best campaign of the game is the villa in the mountains. Hardest was the slums.

Oh, and didn't come across a "Juggernaut" until a SpecOps mission. HOLY CRAP those guys are beasts. Trying to fight one off, run away, while trying not to get killed by other baddies....wow! Glad those guys aren't in the SP story.

Playtime was well worth the $8 and change for the rental.

Considering I got the PC version of Borderlands, and traded in the 360 version, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 was crap, then yeah it was a good deal. Ended up getting Assassin's Creed 2 for 20 bucks (free from trade in credit and edge card).

Very good deal, 91 bucks in trade in credit, got 2 60 dollar games that I will be playing for quite some time and Star Trek Online Collectors Edition. Just MW2 and AC2 are 120 bucks plus tax alone.

Im chipping away in very short bursts at the single player I always have ever since cod1, I like to savour the environments resisting as much as possible being pushed through at break neck speed.
The maps are beautiful, best graphics I have seen a real treat as I can run everything maxed out 1680x1050.

And at Gamestop if I JUST traded in 2 games it would have been 40 bucks off.

Just? So they give you $40 for two new games and that's a good deal?

I still don't get the pissing over the price. Granted it was the same price as the console version, but places like Gamestop had discounts. And at Gamestop if I JUST traded in 2 games it would have been 40 bucks off.

But what is more 'strange' is people who were going to NOT purchase the game, who went ahead and did purchase it and then are bitching about the game. Is the game really at fault?

Not according to the Games On Net review which clearly stated that only US players are getting lower lag games while mostly everyone else is being adversely affected. The review said that if you have all Australian players and one US player in the game, the US player will become the server and everyone else will be lagged. Also I've heard the same thing from UK players who are forced to play with US players.

And then right after that part of the video/review (2.20ish) they then say what about it?

Huh?

What?

They "enjoyed the heck out of the game" ? gee, that's weird, it's like they still like it. How strange. Blank

I like how people talk about a subject long enough that they begin to abbreviate the words. "dedis"

What can I say? You are correct. It has been quite the topic as of late and you knew exactly as to what I was referring to.

I gave multiplayer about 3 hours.

I started to play the day after launch, and in 15 lobbies, I was the lowest level player in the server.

Okay, no problem, I'm a n00b. But everyone else was mid-30's or higher. It made for a COMPLETELY unbalanced game, which really, really frustrated me. I resorted to the n00b tube, which is about as much fun as playing quake 1 multiplayer these days.
