Activision Proposed a "Ridiculous" Budget for MW2

There's an Infinity Ward interview on Develop talking with Robert Bowling about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Topics include the prominence of the CoD series, the pressure caused by a high expectations, the temptation of a new IP, console support, and more. An interesting bit that is highlighted in a separate article is how Activision proposed a budget for Modern Warfare 2 that was so large, Infinity Ward felt it was "ridiculous," saying "No, we don’t need that," as they are typically "pretty tight" with development budgets. "Much like we don’t let ourselves get distracted by hype, if you have excess you feel like you should use excess," he told them. "So we said ‘let us design a game the way we’d always design a game. And let us focus on that.’ So we didn’t let the budget affect our mentality. We would only put stuff in the game that is right for the game, and not because we can."

Out of curiosity - I'm not really up on the networking technology responsible, but wasn't the lag problem with L4D2 the result of going non-dedicated like IW is about to do?

Oh, so if they'd wanted to, they could have made a whole game.

MW2 is turning from a AAA game to a AAA soap opera.

Lies, deceit, backstabbing. Its all there!

Let's not forgot all the media "leaks" that just all happened to fall around the time they decided to inform everyone about the dedicated server situation.

I guess dedicated servers aren't right any more. P2P lagfest is right for the game? Didn't they say they made a big investment into the DLC delivery system for PC? Isn't that counter to what this story is saying?

Their excuses for omitting dedicated servers in MW2 are irrelevant, misleading and outright not true. And now we are supposed to believe this news headline PR stunt?

Political freedom can only be preceded by economic freedom which is preceded by monetary freedom.
