Fort Zombie This Week

Kerberos Studios announces Fort Zombie will be released on October 30 so their horror-themed "lite" action/RPG will be playable on Halloween. There's a trailer with in-game footage on the YouTube, and here's word:
Kerberos Studios prepares zombie fans for a weekend of horror as the lite action/RPG title, Fort Zombie, is confirmed for a Halloween release.

Make ready as the zombies lurch closer and closer. Now is time to make a break from your latest hiding place and prepare yourself for the attack. Grab whatever weapons you can find. Run and fight through the mass of undead. Seek out precious caches of weapons, food, and fuel, while rounding up the few people that remain. Rally them into a unit and begin the fight of your life.

Heya

Dev's posted a new gameplay video after seeing that first one.

What silvaril said: the "complete" SotS would be Sword of the Stars plus the three expansions - Born of Blood, A Murder of Crows, and Argos Naval Yard.

Thank you single-post suspect.

Heya

The Dev's took a "reboot" approach to the 4X-Space genre.

The changes introduced in the first two expansions made the game "more complete" in comparison to what many folks were initially expecting from the original based on other games in the genre.

So most folk consider the "complete form" to be the original game and the expansions, Born of Blood, A Murder of Crows and Argos Naval Yard.

As for Fort Zombie, I suggest waiting until folks start playing the game before dissing it for what it appears like now...

I'm a huge fan of Kerberos - SotS, in its "complete" form, is one of my favorite games ever.

I am intrigued. What is this "complete" form of SotS that you speak of?

I'm a huge fan of Kerberos - SotS, in its "complete" form, is one of my favorite games ever. And I'm confident that Fort Zombie will be a good game, if only for Kerberos' history with SotS.

Yes, the trailer is far from ideal. After the great intro trailer, seeing something like this trailer is disappointing. But it was quite obviously rushed (and made with less care then it should), unlike the previous trailer. As was already said, the frame rate problems do not represent the actual game.

As for graphics, this is a $10 game. You can't expect all the flare and shine of a $60 game. What matters, in the end, is gameplay - and, if I know Kerberos well, Fort Zombie has everything to be great on that aspect.

Call me a Kerberos fanboy if you want (and you may be right), but it will take more than a bad trailer to make me question the talent on Kerberos and their commitment to making great games. I'm definitely getting Fort Zombie, and hopefully we'll see a better trailer before release.

Wow, pretty bad in all aspects according to the trailer. This game needs 1 more year in the cooker.

Apparently the frame rate issues are just the result of a bad trailer. According to the Kerberos guys this wasn't produced at their end, but there should be one that is out in the next few days.

Well, that might help - the animations and movement are abysmal in that trailer.

With animations and graphics so bad that they all but reach out and slap you, I doubt I'd play this if given to me for free, much less pay for it.

I'm not a graphics whore, but to me graphics ought not be so awful that they become a serious distraction from and detriment to enjoyment of a game.

I'm willing to put up with lesser graphics in an RPG, but the "lite Action/RPG" moniker worries me.

I'm a massive fan of Kerberos due to Sword of the Stars, and I'm looking forward to Northstar, but even for a $10 casual game that looks awful. I'm hoping that when it comes out the glitches in that trailer like apparent clipping through zombies, bad FPS and awkward movement will have been just a product of the recording software. Low quality graphics are fine as long as everything runs smoothly and the core mechanics sound awesome.

I think they would have been better off going with 2D, isometric, pre-rendered graphics. In any case, the game's mechanics, not its presentation, is what got me interested and that hasn't changed.

I hear its going to cost $10-15. Its also a random scenario kind of game with a lot of replayability. The graphics aren't stellar, but it has some interesting mechanics. It might be fun for a few nights.

The concept sounded halfway decent, but honestly this trailer would have been laughable 10 years ago, let alone today. That's probably unduly harsh, but seriously.

Also the framerate in that trailer seems well below even 25fps... bad fraps recording or is that what to expect in the actual game?

Hopefully these guys do well enough to expand their art department, and consider first person perspective for the v1.5 or whatever.
