I think you got a point Creston but you have to remember that those big companies like Best Buy, Target and Gamestop can afford to lose some money for awhile. A lot of publishers cant afford to lose a quarter of revenus. If they play chicken then it would really hurt the gaming industry. Gamestop can always rebrand and sell something else. Bestbuy sells tons of other items, so does Walmart. What else does EA or UBIsoft sell?
Right, I understand that, but let's be honest : Who here is the kind of person that says to themselves "I buy my games from Gamestop, and NOWHERE ELSE!"
Seriously? You could maybe boycott one store, but who boycotts everything but one?
EVERYONE wants Modern Warfare 2. If Lamestop doesn't have it, people go to Best Buy. If Best Buy doesn't have it, people to go Walmart. Then to Target, To Fry's, etc. If Gamestop doesn't have it, Activision doesn't sell fewer copies, because those gamers WILL want it, and they WILL get it.
Gamestop, however, loses out on all the profits of a surefire 10 million copy seller, of which they'd probably sell 2 million. Can they afford to? Sure, probably. Do they WANT to? I seriously doubt it. (this is talking about new. They might not even care because they'll get used copies in a week or so, and just sell those.)
The gaming industry is being fucked in the ass by Gamestop because it keeps grabbing its ankles and LETTING IT. Maybe it's time they start showing gamestop that the free rides are over.
Of course, even if they did, it wouldn't matter to gamers anyways, because the one concession they'd wring from gamestop is that they'd either stop selling used games, or start giving EA and its ilk a cut. We'd still be stuck with stupid ass exclusive items in different places.
But right now, it's like EA can't get its tongue out fast enough to shove it up Gamestop's ass, whenever Gamestop wants something.
*shakes head.*
Edit : and I could easily see GameStop retaliating against less popular titles even if they gave in on a title like MW2.
Well, that's a risk that EA or Activision would have to take. Right now they're claiming that Gamestop is literally killing them, so I'd think that if you have the choice between just continuously bending over until you're dead, or fighting back, you should maybe fight back a little. I don't know. I guess you could go the French way too. Riciieieitelellleoo sounds kinda French anyways.
