Final 2 L4D2 Campaigns Revealed?

This Taiwanese Website has what appear to be the two movie posters showing off the two unrevealed campaigns in Left 4 Dead 2. One poster is titled "Hard Rain," subtitled "Come Hell and High Water," depicting a flooded factory complex, and the other is "Dead Center," subtitled "Prices Aren't the Only Things Getting Slashed," showing the now-clichéd zombie location of a shopping mall. Thanks Kotaku.

I don't think anyone is really going to care if they do or not. It's one of those easy to make promises because the community will become wrapped up in the second game and forget about it until it's too late. It's not without precedent in the industry, companies do it all the time, some with good intentions and others lie like politicians. Priorities change, blah blah blah.

I responded to that question in the other thread:
http://www.bluesnews.com/cgi-bin/board.pl?action=viewthread&threadid=103106

Short answer they did mention a little more about it, saying that they'd think about it AFTER l4d2 came out. To me that means never.

How exactly is L4D2 going to interface with the original? I remember Valve saying something about it, but to be honest I was so pissed at the L4D2 announcement at the time that I can't remember. Are the original's campaigns going to work in L4D2?

Same here. I haven't even played the new survival mode or campaign maps and still felt like I got my money's worth from the original.

Only thing that's preventing me form pre-ordering this right now is that I'm really hardcore into Aion, and just don't know if I'll have time to play it. I bought another copy of Fallout 3 a while back (let by brother have my original) with the intent of playing the new DLC, and that thing is still sitting in the shrink wrap.

I'm sure I'll break down and pick it up eventually. Once everyone in the office starts telling war stories over lunch like they did for the original.

They need to throw in a non-stop bitching horde that swarms out of a game store in the mall setting. That'd be fun.

Only if they're wearing Blue's News T-Shirts.

Well for instance, many times when we switch from friends to public, we will wait up to 15 mins for valve to send people to join the lobby. Its almost like you had to sacrifice a small animal to get it to work. We'd play with starting a new lobby, switching back and forth between pub and friends in hopes that valve would finally remember us, etc. And thats just one of the problems that lead to a fairly common 1-2 hour trial to get a friends game going when it first came out. Nowadays its much better, but we still experiance that problem with valve often not sending pubs to the lobby.

Tumbler:
I specifically worded my comment in a particular way to be accurate.

In other words, the game has never sold for $50 on steam (every time I examined it from when it first was for sale on steam until now its been $44.99 discounted price), and AFAIK at gamestop either. Yes, MSRP is $50. I've mentioned that in previous posts. BUT, the actual price in USA you pay on steam has to date been $45 or less.

First, in Gauntlet you CAN stop the monsters from re-spawning, and you could argue that this is your immediate objective, as opposed to just getting to the exit.

Fundamentals. The basics of the game, requires fighting off hordes of monsters, and surviving. Arguing over the gameplay differences, while they do exist, is irrelevant to the basic comparison.

I got L4D on the first 1/2 price sale and at that price it was a bargain. True I expect I would be a lot more annoyed at the limited content had I paid full price. Personally I got most enjoyment out of the every varying teamplay, sometimes I'd be basically the only reason we'd make it through and other times I'd be the weakest link. One of my most memorable games it took 3 1/2 hours to get through BH Expert and not one of us left, we vowed one final try (for the n'th time) and damn well nailed the finale with all 4 making the escape. I nearly fell off my chair laughing when all 3 got their ach for finishing their first expert mission and 2 also got the ach for their first time completing BH...

FWIW I liked the limited number of weapons and Specials. The number of campaigns was just right to launch with. But for the coop game it needed more campaigns to flow in (should have been 2 full campaigns by now IMHO). On the upside there are some very good fan-made campaigns, which are widely played now that Steam shows them up.

Dev, at least from when I got it a friend's campaign game was easy - just setup a private lobby, invite friends then set it public and others join. I didn't play vs much but the first time I played L4D we did the same thing for a vs game. What it completely fails to do (last I looked) was let you get 4 mates in then find another group to play against. This was what turned me right off Vs mode, every time I tried to play I'd be a complete newb on a team with maybe 1/2 good players against an organised team. Sure in every game there's the lamers who just like to rape noobs but with L4D there's not much option but to do this if you want to play with mates, unless you have 8. This is compounded by games taking forever.

It's spent far more time at a reduced price than it has at full price on Steam. I'd say it would be rather difficult to have bought it at full price on Steam...unless you are really stupid, or simply didnt care if you payed full price.

so L4D has nothing to do with cooperatively killing endless waves of respawning enemies in massive groups?

While hordes of enemies are in both games, I'd say 2 key differences set these games apart significantly. First, in Gauntlet you CAN stop the monsters from re-spawning, and you could argue that this is your immediate objective, as opposed to just getting to the exit.

Second, and I'm really quite surprised that no one has modded this into L4D yet (at least that I'm aware), the characters in Gauntlet were actually different from each other.

That said, L4D could be a good base game to make a Gauntlet total conversion.

PC version has never been as high as $50 on steam, or places like gamestop.

Uh....

According to the Gamestop Website:

Reserve Left 4 Dead 2 now and get $5 off the original price of $49.99!

It's always been a $50 game...where have you ever seen it priced for less than $50 as a starting price? Incentives to buy multiple copies or buy it early for a discount don't change the fact that it's a $50 game...

Sry, double post and for some reason its not letting me delete it.

Might as well use it to comment.

Dagok:
Worse than L4D matchmaking? Is that even possible? I remember how I used to spend literally 1 or 2 hours trying to get a friends game going because of how pure crap L4D's was. They finally fixed about 80% of the problems that prevented us from playing months after games release, but theres still lots of issues.

You can get down to $33 if you do 4 pack which I did. Day 1 price of $33 is pretty good IMHO.

no one even mentions the equally cool CoD Zombie Mode

Actually it has been mentioned many many times in the past when compared to L4D. I have even stated that I really like it, and in some ways more than L4D. But the matchmaking implementation is horrible, far worse than the way L4D does it, which in itself gets a lot of complaints from people.

No dedicated server, you can rarely find any other players to play with just by creating or searching for a game, let alone find a game with good pings, etc.

You guys just aren't see Valve is now raping people the EA way.

You just dont get that some people really like the gameplay. Versus is not unbalanced. The only people that I ever see saying that are people that didn't play it for any length of time and don't get that the Infected Bosses aren't supposed to live forever. You supposed to chip away at the Survivors, but every now and then with a well coordinated attack you can take them all down quickly...but requires actual teamwork.

I've put in more than 200 hrs into L4D, most of that in Versus. So I and so many others are quite happy for a quick sequel to get more of the same gameplay that we like.

Overpriced crap but no, gotta suck the dick of Valve and not see the price gouging.

Overpriced? Depends on perspective. Obviously if you don't like the game...then yes it's overpriced, but it wont matter what the price point is if you dont like the game to begin with. Seeing as I pre-ordered it for $33.75, not the $50 price, I think I got a good deal. I was going to hold off on Borderlands as I wasnt going to pay $50 for a game I dont know if I'll like. But the new 4 pack offer again makes it $33.75, which I'm considering.
