On this day in 1938 The Munich Agreement was signed, granting the Sudetenland to Nazi Germany, and assuring us "peace in our time." On the more successful side, on this date in 1967 the Outer Space Treaty ("Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies") went into effect, and as far as we know, has been honored ever since (whew!).

On the more successful side, on this date in 1967 the Outer Space Treaty Haha, right after reading this, I saw this. If you were referencing those concerns, that was one obscure joke!

and as far as we know, has been honored ever since (whew!). Ah, but the Chinese satellite destruction in Jan 07 resulting in a huge field of space debris can be considered a violation of the spirit of Article IX of the treaty. Though the treaty only states that we have a right to request consultation about the planned activity. Of course, China kept it a secret until after the destruction of the satellite, so there wasn't much we could do to object and prevent the giant field of space debris from being created.
