Crytek UK's New IP Plans

Crytek Across the World on Develop is an article from about a week ago profiling the various arms of Crytek (thanks Joystiq via GoGamingGiant). The profile of Crytek UK (formerly Free Radical Design) describes a new IP they are currently "concepting" in remarks that also mention the FPS genre, though it's not clear if the new IP is a shooter. Here's word:

"We are currently concepting up an original IP that we hope will become a defining game series for the UK studio,” reveals Karl Hilton, studio manager. “However, in reality, the opportunity to make any kind of original FPS genre game where we get to focus on the quality of both the multiplayer and single player experience is what drives people at the studio. We have a strong history of creativity here, and we want to take that forward with Crytek and the CryENGINE 3."

Oh god, another person who thinks Crysis was buggy or poorly optimized because an 8800 couldn't max it out. I am so tired of hearing these snarky remarks. For how amazing Crysis looks and everything it is putting on screen, the game is optimized like crazy.
That's officially THE most retarded thing I've read on this site all week.

Crysis can still give sub-30 fps dips even with 5870's in Crossfire. It's a terrible benchmark representation of a videocards potential because the game is poorly optimized.
Exactly. Even on cards several generations later the game is still not performing very well. To me Crysis was a failure from a technology and from a gaming perspective. I don't care if it is "technically" impressive if the performance is poor and the gameplay mediocre.

Still, I'm interested to see what they put out next, especially with a newly optimised engine and a fresh team working on it. If it doesn't involve aliens, mutants, sci-fi or anything vaguely similar then that will be a very good thing.

Runs like shit? What video card are you using man? This argument was valid two years ago.

Well, no, Crysis stills runs poorly given its age and the game does not scale well at all. Just check the benchmarks.

The article doesn't say anything about PC game in development. This could be a console exclusive.

I could predict every single one of these replies hours ago when Blue first posted this topic. Blue's is so cynical, retarded, and predictable these days.

That's the one comment that was still missing ;).

I ran the press release through google translate:

"We are currently concepting up an jungle simulator that we hope will become a defining game series for the jungle simulation genre,” reveals Karl Hilton, studio manager. “However, in reality, the opportunity to make any kind of jungle based FPS genre game where we get to focus on the foliage is what drives people at the studio. We have a strong history of making trees and grass here, and we want to take that forward with Crytek and the CryENGINE 3."

Seriously though I hope they can really do something original with the Cryengine, I cannot play another jungle based island simulator.

Could be decent if they can devise an interesting central character + setting, rather than generic sci-fi\military.

LMN8R a mildling troll, non-poisonous. Watch out for his quick posting reflexes, his bite hurts but the pain lasts only a few seconds before dissipating.

It is best not to feed this troll (just like any other troll fro that matter) but if you are careful you can engage with him in a moderately intelligent argument.

Don't you guys have anything better to do than to bitch and moan about the exact same hyperbolic, unrestrained, seething hatred you all have towards Crytek?

It would be quite sad, if it weren't so damned hilarious!

Our crytek games are so cool, we don't need Q & A!

Don't trust me, go to tweakguides.com, run by a person who knows more about these things than either of us, and read his Crysis tweak guide.

Hell, Crysis runs better on my GTX275 than a ton of other games that look much, much worse.

I'm just wondering if/when WorldShift will be released in North America; I believe Crytek bought the developer that made the game.

Yeah but as I understand it, they bought them at a bargain basement price because nobody bought WorldShift. It was actually a neat concept but yeah, I doubt it will come out here.

I hear halfway through they decide to make the game worse and replace the "armed human" enemy type with "close combat monster" enemy type!
