Ships Ahoy - Risen

Today is the launch date for Risen, the new action/RPG from Piranha Bytes. The game is available from digital distributors Direct2Drive and Steam and presumably a retailer near you. Also, for those who missed the update to yesterday's release of the Risen demo, the first versions of the demo were corrupted, so here is a list of mirrors with known working copies: AtomicGamer, ComputerGames.ro, FileFront, Gamer's Hell, PixelRage, and The Patches Scrolls.

I'm surprised at the hate Ray has shown, but I felt it when I first got G3. Now that it's patched, it's playable but like others have said, the fundamental design is wrong, I got bored halfway through, although that was a lot longer than I trudged through oblivion.

I think it's obvious that most of the blame fell on Jowood, but don't care to rehash that old argument, it was a mess when released.

I might buy a new computer to play this game, Risen is the only thing in the last few years that might pique my interest as G2 Night of the Raven is one of my favourite game that I can remember playing in a long, long time.

I love the reviews, 'No quest compass? A static Map? Difficult enemies?'. If the xbox twenty year old gaming journalists have too much of a challenging time with it, I might enjoy it. I'm hoping it's like G2.

Looking forward to it, eventually.
