Ok sweeties you are forgiven
Lemme know what you think of the ending of the game.. and how the story turned out to be. I, for one, am interested in your opinion.
Would love to see this thread remaining alive for a little longer. |

You people make it sound like people like Eraser and me were rushing through the main story. This is bullshit.
I've seen every nook and gran. I've right about killed every monster on the island. I've leveled up to a part I couldn't use my 31 learning points on anything usefull anymore. And you did all that very quickly compared to me, that's all I said. I can't even beat a 6 hour FPS in a few days, let along an RPG like this. I guess you have more time to play than I do, that's all. |

Still, the main story is short but the length of the game is absolutely acceptable. Again: I've utterly enjoyed this game and will do so again once I get my new system (still waiting for the shopkeeper to make me an offer for the list of hardware I sent him.. dude takes ages! You'd think he'd be fast since it'll be his cash). |

Wow, you guys blow through games quickly... I am still exploring the first town I went to. Same here, I'm taking it slowly and absorbing everything. While the grapics aren't anything special, they do the job and are well stylized. I'm really enjoying the atmosphere and difficulty. |

Its even better when you are the Order, then they sit on their arses the ENTIRE TIME ;p - But the story also was kinda meh at the end -> Secret Text down below
I also thought it incredible retarded to have the order fight on MY SIDE, even though i am rebel. There should have been an rebel attack on the monastery to take it over, not this "lets follow the mortal enemies for a while" nonsense. Thats one point i really disliked. And even worse, if you play as Order guy you have a real lack of decent weaponry for quite a while.
And even better
You'd think the mages would help a bit in the end fight eh? Nice of them to sit around while you face Fire Demon Guy Uberlord himself. And what the heck was up with that end-battle!?!

I'm hoping for an addon aswell. Or Risen 2, of course This game is fantastic despite the few complaints I gave in my last post.
I'll give it some rest now and wait for my new system (newest ATI card coming up etc etc.. real sick shit) to replay the game probably as a mage of the order. By the way, I was rather disappointed by the lack involvement the 'bandits' had in the whole story. The Don and his men were basically sitting on their asses while you literally did EVERYTHING for them.
Oh well. Again: FANTASTIC game. Enjoyed almost every minute of it. |

Mhh, now that you mention that i did do a lot of exploring... but i still had 25 hours of playtime logged, i explored a LOT of things though....
You thought the Main quest ended too quickly? Finding the 5 armor pieces, reforging them? Fighting your way through that entire cavern...
Well i guess i agree that these quests were a bit on the short sight, though the island was decidedly larger than G2 or G1 ... one can't really compare it to G3 because that was 80% filler and only 20% true content there...
But that said, one really gets very quickly to the relevant quest for chapter 3 and 4 and when you focus on it i guess its just walking to the quest marker and fighting your way through... But combat got easier? The elite warriors i thought were pretty annoying, though i agree that wielding 2 handed weapons in 1 hand was a tad bit imbalanced (because now you could use a shield + had faster attack animations)
But now that you mention it, the quests were very sparse in chapter 3 and 4, these 2 chapters basically had about 6 quests where as you had 60+ in chapter 1 and 2...
So in the end, i agree with you.. it was a bit on the small size but in terms of time the game was pretty long.. i am hoping for an addon |

Sadly I cannot agree with you this time, eRe4s3r.
Instead of getting harder.. the combat gets more interesting but at the same time easier. A paradox, I know.
I'm shocked that I have already finished the game. I loved it so much.. and then it ended. I think that if I didn't deliberately stalled allot -- by visiting the beaches at dusk, night and dawn for example -- I would've been able to complete Chapter 2 in about 3 hours tops.
I won't go spoiling here so I'll leave it at that. But I'm simply very disappointed how short the main quest was and how relatively small the island is.
Any thoughts on the matter? |

Yes it was possible in G2 - I haven't heard of anyone who couldn't beat the goblins in G2 at the beginning. The camps are the intro areas, they have nothing to do with the reality of combat outside. In later chapters you will definitely revise that opinion, although i doubt you will see the end of the game on hard.
Try fighting 5 black wolves at once ^^ |

| I'm just wishing it was harder. I'm playing on Hard and I beat all the fighters in the bandit camp without upgrading a single combat skill or attribute. This definitely wasn't possible in G1/2. |

Indeed.
I love the combat. One time you can completely and utterly defeat enemies, the other time you make one mistake.. they get the upper-hand and they destroy you. I love it. It's so not mainstream, people will first find it awkward and hard but will soon love it. The combat is punishing and rewarding, indeed. |

Maybe I just need to play more, but I couldn't see any way to tell if/when they were going to charge so that I could dodge, which seems to be the only defense against boars at this stage. As you play the game more, you begin to learn the tells of enemy attacks and their general attack patterns. |

| Just played through the demo and the combat was ok. No range weapons or magic to play with in the demo apparently. It does seem rather random in how the creatures attack you. Seems like they do get free hits in for no apparent reason. The stun ability of the boars is a pain too. Maybe I just need to play more, but I couldn't see any way to tell if/when they were going to charge so that I could dodge, which seems to be the only defense against boars at this stage. I was just using the sword/shield at this point. |

Jerykk, there are indeed moments in combat where you can exploit the interruptions the enemies have everytime you hit them. This way you can continue hitting them untill they eventually die.
However, the humanoid enemies have the abilitie to counter your attacks.. which means that if they do, your hit recoils and they have an opening to attack you since you're basically stunned for a second.
Although the game gets easier as you progress, the combat gets way more fun.
Admitted, once your swordskill is high enough to hold a twohander in one hand.. you're unstoppable. But still --> FUN!!!
One thing I don't understand, however, is that I have yet to face enemies that use magic against me while I'm already at the end of the mainquest the guy gives you at the beginning of chapter 2 (collect 5 of those things.. y'know? :D).
I'm in a constant fear that I'm about to complete the game, since I think the island is pretty small and I've basically seen every nook and gran already :\

After playing Risen for a bit, I'm somewhat disappointed by how easy it is. Button mashing is still too effective. Not as effective as G3, mind you, but far more effective than in G1/2. I'm hoping things will get more challenging as the game progresses.
