Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising Trailer

A new trailer from Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is now available on G4tv.com, offering a look at one of the later levels in Bohemia Interactive Studios' upcoming military shooter. Word is: "The video shows off the game’s hyper-realistic gameplay including small touches such as bullets that take real ricochets and the fact that you may not be in danger if you hear a machine gun shooting, but will be in danger if you hear the bullets thudding into the ground."

The problem with giving AI pin point accuracy is that you'll just end up looking at the 'mission failed' screen over and over again.

That said, the AI doesn't get any better the higher you set the difficulty, they just take the assists away like the radar hud across the top and your aim cursor, fewer checkpoints, fewer heals from your med kit.

I don't think it'll live up to the original in terms of its scope, maybe after someone mods in a 'project reality' like realisim mode - if that's possible, the mod tools release isn't completely confirmed yet.

and the fact that you may not be in danger if you hear a machine gun shooting, but will be in danger if you hear the bullets thudding into the ground.

Ummm. The M60 machine gun for example has a muzzle velocity of 953m/s and an effective range of ~1.1km. The speed of sound is 343m/s. If the machine gunner does his job right then you won't hear anything at all. You'll just be dead. Long before you would be able to even hear any kind of firing.
That dev's got the wrong order. What you would notice first if the gunner misses is bullets thudding into the ground and only after that would you hear the gun shooting.

P.S. for the smart cookies: Yeah, I know that the bullet will slow down as it travels but it will be a while before it drops below 343m/s so unless you're being shot at from a far distance there'll be bullett impacts first and sounds second.

its a shame that they just didnt go for a BF2 style of gameplay,
instead of the full complicated shit with just roaminig fields of boredom.
Then they would of gotten a bigger following..

Can't wait to compare this to ArmA2 when it is released!

Can you fly anything in Dragon Rising? The cities look very simplified compared to ArmA2, but playing it is the true test.

Also, it looks like it could use a SMOKE mod, like DMarkwick's for ArmA2 - the smoke looks pretty weak. Do they have viewblock on the smoke?

It's uncomfortable watching someone play an FPS with a joystick!

Looks great. But 32 player limit and the seemingly absence of urban areas concern me.
