Capcom to Make "PC-Lead" Games

VG247 has details from their podcast interview with Capcom's Christian Svensson, who reveals they are working on a couple of games designed for PC to be ported to consoles, rather than their usual MO, which is the reverse. Word is:

"We do have a couple of products in development which are PC-lead, that are not announced yet," he said. "That doesnít mean that that content isnít also going to show up on console, because it will."

"But the pedigree of the team and the primary focus of the design is around the PC, and the largest forecast is on PC for at least one of these projects."

It's good to see Capcom has learned from the atrocity to gaming that was Resident Evil 4 for PC. They still have a ways to go to earn my trust, but with RE5 they seem to be on the right track. Good for them, I say. The more quality titles on the PC, the better.

Good news, well done Capcom. I hope these projects come to fruition.

I see no reason to be negative about this news!

Agreed!

Good for Capcom, though I don't think they're going to find quite what you'd call "success" even if they make some money what with the PC market these days.

Someone tell these Japanese people though that they can license their engines at $500,000 a pop (Unreal 3 individual license fee) and to get cranking on being able to compete with America.

They'd make a lot more money if they put more resources into actual next-gen engine development with 3'rd party licensing in mind.

The Japanese are in the dark ages with engine development and graphics because their business culture involves trade secrets. They do not license their game engines out to their competitors because they don't want them using their source code.

Because of this, their graphics and general tech are outdated and they cannot compete with us. The only engine out of Japan I have ever been impressed with is the Metal Gear Solid 2 engine.

That game looked similar to Xbox-quality graphics and when the first screenshots came out, I couldn't believe that what I was looking at was in realtime.

I understand fully the desire to do this, but living in America where licensing out your new engine is the first thing the public sees (Rainbow Six: Las Vegas was the first Unreal 3 game to reach store shelves, I believe) has shown me that licensing is the way go.

Over here, we ARE the driving force of 3d game technology.

You all have this all wrong. They are putting the lead used in making PCs into their games. They're trying to kill us with extracted lead from old CRT monitors! If you touch the media they put their games on you'll die of lead poisoning.

The majority of the Capcom ports have been truly pityful.

All of their ports recently have performed great and have also had superior features on PC. Using the Resident Evil 4 excuse, which was several years and many games ago, does not even come close to justifying your argument.

You never played a Capcom game this gen, that's obvious, as all of them have been superior to their counter console versions in every way possible.
Exactly.

I'm all for Capcom focusing on the PC, though it will take more than an announcement to impress me. To be considered a PC focused game it needs to have some real depth of gameplay and take advantage of the mouse / keyboard for the interface and control.

Yeah, well, I'll believe it when I see it. The majority of the Capcom ports have been truly pityful.

Whether you like the games or not is a matter of taste, but ever since Capcom started doing their own ports, they have been spectacular PC versions.

On the game side I do agree, I had no interest in Devil May Cry or Street Fighter, but I am looking forward to Resident Evil 5.

If this is true and the game isn't some little project like Age of Booty or Flock, kudos to Capcom. That said, Capcom doesn't exactly have a lot of experience designing games for the PC so I'm curious as to what they're working on.

Said it before and I will say it again.
Take Dead Rising, put in 4 person co-op and ship it. I don't care if the 3 other people show up in cut scenes etc, but just DO IT and release it on the PC.

Really? Whilst I like the concept for Dead Rising, I found it rather repetitive and boring.

As for what these titles are, count me in as taking the wait-and-see approach.

Sounds like an MMO? I'm not surprised to hear PC lead development now that the current gen consoles are aging and also that the PC gaming market is so robust. It is the monkey that will not die..
