More on Sins of a Solar Empire: Diplomacy

Brad Wardell offers further details on Sins of a Solar Empire: Diplomacy in advance of his promised PAX reveal. Word is beta testing of the add-on will be this fall, and Diplomacy will be released in winter 2010:

Ironclad and Stardock are teaming up once again on the second micro-expansion pack for Sins of a Solar Empire . Dubbed, Sins of a Solar Empire: Diplomacy, the new micro-expansion pack will vastly increase the amount of diplomatic options available to players in the game and help make forging good relations with other empires a major option for would-be galactic conquerors. The beta is due out this Fall with the general release Winter 2010.

"Sins1 is modern and looks sweet"

Guess you never played Homeworld 1 or 2? HW graphics STILL kick Sins ass in sideways, up and down! Sins is a great game don't get me wrong but the ships are so basic looking. Very primitive compared to HW designs.

Look at the HW2 Battlecruiser.

Yeah, I agree this expansion sounds underwhelming as far as adding to the game. With AI being skirmish-only, no campaign, why bother with fancy diplomacy? What the game has now is adequate. Entrenchment was great with the addition of mines and starbases and a couple of ships for both, but this sounds like a PBS-sponsored expansion with links to episodes of Masterpiece Theatre included.

They need to increase the game's depth.

Add ship to ship boarding parties, individual ship systems and ability to wage ground wars represented with Homm like hex maps.

It's stagnated on my system for over a year, there just wasn't enough to do.

Note: I agree with the slow speed of their expansions. Obviously they're working on something big.

Speaking of new games: What do you need sins2 for? Sins1 is modern and looks sweet, so I question the need for a "sins 2". I'm guessing they're developing something completely new.

Personally, I wish that was a single player (or coop!) campaign for sins, with a full story and cutscenes etc.. like Starcraft. I love playing these kind of games with a premise or context.

I think it's smart of them to continue supporting an existing product with paid expansions. I just hope they'll whip out some lovely campaign addon after the diplomacy expansion (of which that campaign idea would benefit from).

In the meantime, I get my campaign kicks from GalCiv2 (Dread Lords).

On this "Diplomacy" expansion... I won't make much use of it at present, cause my mates play 3v3 vs the AI in teams... so Diplomacy won't do much there

edit: typos

Good lord, it takes them one year per micro expansion? Sins is a great game, but as I have said before if they are taking so long for such small changes to the game play, maybe they and their fans would be better off if they dumped the whole idea of micro expansions and focused instead on Sins 2. At this rate, at best the third micro will not be out until Q1 2011! For a game that was released in Q1 of 2008!

I am assuming they mean Q1 2010 (January-March).

Similar question here.

Do they mean winter in the first part of the year (january) or winter at the end of the year (I believe that's right for the Americans).

Really wish they would at least stick to a convention for games (all companies). Some state Quaters (do they mean financial quaters or yearly quaters), others state seasons (different areas have the seasons at different times).

Is that a typo, or are they really planning an over one year beta?
