NCsoft Soars

NCsoft reports income rise of 451% in Q2 outlines a startling upswing for NCsoft amid disappointing financial results for so many game companies. Sales of their MMORPG Aion in Korea were the primary cause for the increases, though they also saw significant gains from NCsoft China. Word is:

NCsoft has reported massive increases in both sales and income for its second quarter of the FY2010, returning a total net income of KRW 33.8 billion (USD 27.1 million) - a figure up 451 per cent on the previous quarter.

Sales increased for the South Korean company by 70 per cent, totalling KRW 137.8 billion (USD 110.5 million), while operating profit rose 353 per cent compared to the same quarter in 2008, to KRW 47.5 billion (USD 38.1 million).

Doesn't have anything to do with being shocked, first I heard of this game was from this post in Blue's, did a search found ONE review in Metacritic. So either you know about tons more reviews than Metacritic or your exaggerating how well known info is about this game.

Who cares about reward verses risk for being forced to PvP against your will for a game, I am PAYing to play? I know, if I wanted to play PvP, I would play PvP. Now they know (if the devs care) why at least one person won't be playing their game, it might be valuable to them, obviously not you.

As a PvE player in all MMORPGs I have played, I welcome the change which Aion will present in molding PvPvE. Sure, the Abyss is an open gank arena but you get rewarded extra XP from the higher grade monsters and gain AP in the process to purchase high-end gold gear. It's not like they're throwing you to the dogs while offering little rewards so you may as well make the best of it when you make an appearance.

Rifts are typically announced when they open and when they do open, it's only for a limited time and once the invading player dies and the rift closes, they don't respawn in that location. This does not happen in the starter zones.

Not to mention, the classes are fairly well balanced if used by the right player to their full potential. Hell, most people who tried the Assassin got mad because they expected it to be like WoW and you could stay stealthed for as long as you want. Most of the QQ going on in the boards about classes is the same reason you see in any other MMO: terrible players who can't pvp and want to be spoon fed by screaming nerf [class].

It's always been pushing itself as a PvPvE title so I don't know why people are shocked when they discover you will be doing PvP. Heaven forbid your pixels reach 0 HP.

I believe Auto Assault was developed by Netdevil and published by NCsoft. So they aren't totally to blame for that. Tabula Rasa used the same engine that Auto Assault did. I completely agree that they both looked like crap and were quite clunky. I was subscribed to Auto Assault and it was somewhat fun but overall too bland...I betad TR and it was too similiar to AA for me (graphics and animation wise)

However I have played Aion in beta and I like it. I haven't played it enough to get a true feeling for it but it could have potential. I just hope someone will be able to mod out the over the top high pitched screaming that toons do when attacking or getting hit (you know the kind that sound like an asian porno). Also the music is very annoying to me. I love rock n roll but not that crap they have in there.

Is it just me or do all NCsoft MMO games (and wasn't NetDevil a spinoff or related to them somehow?) all look the same?
Like the they all use the same pallet, art style, etc...

Auto Assault felt cheap and cheesy like CoX.. like jumpgate evolution sort of looks like.. like Aion does.. like Champions Online does..like Tabula Rasa did (does? still going? haha)

None of the respective MMO's from those two companies look and feel different to me.
anyone else get that feeling?

The PvP turned me off as well, but I may still try it. DAoC had PvP zones that worked out pretty well, although we weren't required to go there. They do have some way to counter griefing, it sounds like. For example, after you accumulate so many points (given by killing lower level players), your position is displayed to the zone. Or something like that. I have a hard time believing it'll help much, though.

Just read a review of Aion, sounds pretty cool, until I got to the part that said while there is PvE, you are forced to go into PvP zones. Apparently they don't require consent and force you into PvP even if you are a PvE player and so they lose me as a customer.
