Jeff Strain and David Reid Leave NCsoft

MMORPG.com reports that both Jeff Strain and David Reid have parted ways with NCsoft. In the case of ArenaNet cofounder Jeff Strain, word is: "NCsoft West announces the departure of Jeff Strain, President of Product Development, who has chosen to leave NCsoft under amicable terms and NCsoft wishes him the best in his new endeavor. This does not change our plans or negatively impact our upcoming launch of Aion, and NCsoft remains very excited about the game’s launch on September 22nd in the U.S. and September 25th in Europe. These changes do not influence any other teams, development schedules or other launches." They go on to call the departure of President of Publishing David Reid "an unrelated and separate event," providing little in the way of detail, but saying "he will be missed."

Aion is just another L2 clone.

Isn't it more like L2 characters using the WoW quest system to support gold farmers? I mean, gold farmers and NCSoft are the ones making money here, right?

For this WOW vet, its a nice change of pace. The pre-order has been in the top ranks of steam downloads so there there seem to be a few people who don't think "it's going to blow."

Well, that's exactly why it's a top pre-order. WoW players are dying for something different.

This isn't it, just like AoC wasn't it and Warhammer wasn't it and every single other MMO to come out since late 2004. Age of Conan and Warhammer sold a bunch of copies when they first came out, too, because of those people... they just didn't retain any.

this shit was coming ever since arenanet sold itself to ncsoft. they had to know this was coming. they had to do it for the cash in, not because of their passion for gw2. (a game which has since been delayed indefinitely as far as the public is concerned)

you cant switch your bread recipe to a coconut square recipe and expect to get good toast

Aion is just another L2 clone.. those korean devs are super stubborn about bringing their own boring grind it out forever type of gameplay in the western market.. so yeah its Aion is not going to be anything more special than L2 was.

A lot of people didn't think AoC was going to blow either. Then came release, and not only did it blow, but it sucked. It sucked, blew, and sucked some more. Not in a good way, but that special kind that makes you scream:

GOD NO...OMG NO...MAKE IT STOP.

I'll make my own interpretation of Aion this coming weekend rather than listen to others who tell me what to think.

Entertainment is not a universal equality. Those who try to tell you otherwise probably led a sheltered life and only operate on knee-jerk reactions.

Constructive criticism is a fine art.

There's a bit of GW (and Lineage and WOW and DOAC) in AION. For this WOW vet, its a nice change of pace. The pre-order has been in the top ranks of steam downloads so there there seem to be a few people who don't think "it's going to blow."

It really does blow, I played the beta for about an hour and uninstalled it. Completely uninspiring and generic in about every way possible, the only good part about the game were the graphics and performance. I'm hooked with the Champions Online beta atm, definitely might consider picking it up if they improve the PvP.
