Oh they do? Well that's cool. I never got around to trying because the cheap ass CDs had died long before then.
Now I just need to find a place where they sell them...
Shit, it'd be so much easier if GOG would just release them.

The entire WC series works perfectly in DosBox. Well, aside from Prophecy since it's a Win9x game but that works in XP. I've had WC4 working in XP too, actually. The special DVD edition at that. You just need to use Google.
I don't need to pay EA to install the older games in DosBox for me.

Man even if they put out a high-res edition of WC3 or WC4 that works on XP or Vista I would be first in line to buy it!
I'd happily buy the standard 640x480 version that WORKS under Vista or XP. Both WC3 and WC4's CDs died on me quite a few years ago, and I've never been able to find them anywhere anymore.

Someone mentioned Crimson Skies. How it had high production values, entertaining gameplay, big marketing and it still flopped.
Well DUH!!!! Crimson Skies! WTF A World War I steampunk arcade sim? Even if Jesus himself came down on a cloud and told me that Crimson Skies is better than heaven, I still wouldnt play it.
Big cute propeller airplanes arent that cool. Tie Interceptors are cool. Put-put Zeppelins arent cool. That heavy-bomber that looks like phat rocket from WC3 is damn cool.

I'd love to see another Vampire game too.
Wasn't there an announcement about a new Vampire game a few months ago? I vaguely recall something about vampires...

If we're pushing a fantasy this far, if fanboys had their way the original Fallout dev team would be happily sitting in a basement, never stopping, cranking out work on Fallout 15, living solely off their own urine, which just so happens to be made of marshmallows and bunnies. I wouldn't go that far. The fanboys would like some variety, after all. Another Planescape game would be pretty sweet, as well as another Arcanum. I'd love to see another Vampire game too. |

If fanboys had their way, Black Isle wouldn't have died and the original Fallout 3 wouldn't have been canceled. Personally, I think I prefer that to what actually happened. Come now, why stop there? Agreed. Think of what would haven't would've happen if Bethesda let the fanboys have their way with Fallout 3. If fanboys had their way, Black Isle wouldn't have died and the original Fallout 3 wouldn't have been canceled. Personally, I think I prefer that to what actually happened. |

As for the game, eh, we'll see. Unlike a lot of people here, I'd rather see a company take a shot at an old IP and fuck up, so that I at least have the CHANCE of getting another old classic back, than nobody ever taking the chance because "it would rape my childhood memories," or whatever crap people whine about. Agreed. Think of what would haven't would've happen if Bethesda let the fanboys have their way with Fallout 3.

For some reason, the cartoony original always resonated better with me (I have fond memories of my Blue-haired avatar, callsign Hotshot!) than the FMV ones with Mark Hamill and that porn star.
I loved everything about that game. I must have played it 2 dozen times. |

And I have fond memories of those games, the fun thing is they'll remain in my memories. But it's not a stretch beyond the imagination to pull 'good' games out either now. Hell I wouldn't mind seeing a Lands of Lore game either, I'm tempted to dust off my copy of LoL3 to play. I think I only ever beat that once, that was a great game. |

How many times do we have to get burned before we finally realize that game companies no longer cater to people like us who want deep, complex games. It's not that these games aren't profitable, it's because the game doesn't have mass appeal.
True. That said, Wing Commander wasn't all THAT deep. It was a space combat sim with an utter lack of any kind of flight physics, and where dogfighting consisted of you turning sharply to get onto a Dralthi's ass. Your wingmen were utterly fucking useless, and a major pain in the ass if you were trying to keep them alive.
The real shining point of Wing Commander was its setting and its storyline, both of which had really never been done on the PC before.
I'm sure EA has some decent writers who can cook up a good WC story.

So if EA wants to do another Wing Commander, I say, awesome. Let's hope it's good.

I think I've played most of the WC universe games. Privateer was by far the best of the bunch (still fire it up once in a while). Privateer 2 and Freelancer pale in comparison to the original.
The gemini project is cool but lacks big funding. I'd love to see a Privateer remake done right with a good budget and time enough to fend off a fair chunk of feature creep.

Sadly, I just can't trust any company these (not just EA) to faithfully bring back Wing Commander as we recognize it.
I still remember the dummies that thought that just because WC: Arena had this awesome manual that reminiscent of the old WC, that that was somehow a guarantee that Arena was going to be good.
How many times do we have to get burned before we finally realize that game companies no longer cater to people like us who want deep, complex games. It's not that these games aren't profitable, it's because the game doesn't have mass appeal.
So if this means a new WC game is on the way, you can bet your ass it's going to be another dumbed down game like Arena. The sad thing is that WC really wasn't that complex of a space sim game. Compared to Tie Fighter and Freespace, WC was really quite simple. But even by today's standards, that's too complex for today's crowd. |

I loved the WC series right up to, and including, WC:Prophecy.
I was always amazed that no one tried to run with the new storyline that it started.
