PC Batman: Arkham Asylum Delayed

Eidos and NVIDIA announce PhysX support will be included in the PC edition of Batman: Arkham Asylum, also announcing the release of the game is delayed until September 15 in North America and September 18 in Europe (though this should not delay the release of the PC demo, slated for tomorrow). The console editions are still expected on August 25th in North America and August 28th in Europe and Australia. Here's word on PhysX support: "Hardware accelerated by supported NVIDIA GeForce GPUs, PhysX technology provides an even deeper level of engagement for players of Batman: Arkham Asylum by utilizing the processing power of the NVIDIA GPU to render stunning in-game physics objects in the environment that not only add to the overall look of the game, but create an immersive and believable world."

What a stupid statement. It goes without saying that gaming takes low precedence on the heirarchy of life's crises, but this is a games forum. One built by, run by, and frequented by people who take gaming as a serious hobby. Deal with it or get lost.

I think it would be better if they just said "We didn't start working on the PC version until the end of the project so it'll be a bit late."

That sounds like a load of bullshit. NO ONE decides to add PhysX support less than a month from release.

Well, the way Shacknews reported it it sounded more like they merely announced PhysX support together with the delay. They did not say that the delay happened BECAUSE of PhysX. I wasn't able to find the actual press release online, so who knows...

Also, according to Shacknews, the demo is not delayed and will be available tomorrow.

Are you fucking kidding me? No. Of course not. It was bound to happen. And yes, Virginia, this is a load of bullshit just like Santa Claus. This game was already delayed several months, so they couldn't have added this by now? Most people don't even use PhysX! And yes, they decide to support it now? At this point in time?

No, those of you calling bullshit are right about it. They're not delaying this for another month for something most people don't use. Odds are the port is so godawful shitty they're afraid of a class-action lawsuit and decided to hold it for another month of round the clock improvements to at least get it in a semi-playable state for the PC.

Didn't you know?!

PC Piracy cannibalises the console sales!

This 'PhysX' delay is a load of bullshit - I know for a fact that PCZone already have their review copy because I have several of their reviewers on my Steam Friends list and one of them was playing it the other day and was even complaining on Twitter when his save games disappeared.

It's UT3. UT3 has PhysX built in.

That makes more sense, but it's still a decision that you don't make this late.

It's UT3. UT3 has PhysX built in.

They're probably just enhancing it beyond what the consoles can do.

That sounds like a load of bullshit. NO ONE decides to add PhysX support less than a month from release. MS Certification surely takes at least that long, meaning this game should have already been sent off.

At this point in the release wouldn't it make alot more sense to ship the game as is and include Physx in the first patch ?

I'm wondering if they've run into a problem and need an excuse for a delay.
