A pirated copy is potentially never a sale whereas a used game copy demonstrates intent that the buyer wanted to spend money. While publishers probably like neither activity, I can tell you with 100% certainty that console piracy is barely a blip on the radar while used games sales is a big fucking deal to them. Neither should be a big deal if they are pricing their games properly. Ideally, any price they set should be designed to (in theory) maximize their profits irrespective of either used sales or pirated copies. If they are worried about losing sales, then their prices are too high. |
