Man this thread really reminded me why I stopped reading this site. So much hyperbole. I bet if you'd played the Diablo 2 barbarian-only demo, and if it had not been multiplayer-enabled, your comments on Diablo 2 might have been similar. Remember how Diablo 2 and all battle.net games had banner ads across the top in all chat rooms? Oh that's right, you conveniently forgot that, because before people starting complaining about WoW, Blizzard could do no evil. How about when they started gathering non-specific system information? Or when Valve did the same thing with Steam? That's right, conveniently forgotten. Yet you all still probably played D2, WC3, CS, etc. for years after these things were implemented.

I'll be honest. The demo was a disappointment. Worth calling the spawn of satan and the worst game ever created? Worth claiming that the designers/developers/ceo should be killed or eat their own excrement? Absolutely not. Based only on the demo, it's still more fun than 90% of the games that have come out for the PC in the past 3 years or so. And that's without making the assumption that the game gets better later on, and ignoring that it'd obviously be more fun multiplayer.

Whatever, it's not like I'm going to be here to read your well thought out replies about killing babies anyway, or that I'm being paid by EA to post positively about the game, or whatever retarded drivel you come up with.

I can because his real thinking is "I wish we could have squeezed another $15 out of each idiot who bought our game. Those hard-core fans idiots would have bought the game anyway."

People perceive lower priced products to be of inferior quality, and will therefore specifically choose not to buy them because of the perceived lower quality.

So then, go into Video Options -> Advanced -> High Dynamic Range and turn the HDR off. Or add "mat_bloom 0" and "mat_hdr_enabled 0" in the DoD config file. Ignorance is no excuse, it's not like you don't have options FFS. It takes less than a second to Google for a tweak (or just look in your game video settings). Cripes.
Both of the previous posters stated that they had HDR off, and why they had HDR off. You can't counter "why" they had HDR off with "WELL THEN TURN IT OFF DURRR".

That politics in star wars article is the biggest load of crap I've ever read. The line "if you're not with me you're against me" is probably as old as English itself, if not older. It was already established in episode 4, in 1977, that the emporer gained power through fear during war time. That his position was supposed to be temporary until the end of the war but he had the senate liquidated.

HOW CAN IT BE A COMMENTARY ON THE IRAQ WAR WHEN THE STORY HAS BEEN IN PLACE SINCE 15 YEARS BEFORE ANYONE EVEN KNEW WHERE THE HELL IRAQ WAS.

Stupidity pisses me off. Stupidity being printed in a national newspaper really pisses me off.

Agreed. The issue here is that you're screwing people who don't want to PvP. On a PvE server that's unacceptable.

FYI: There's a reason they call them "Normal" servers and not "PvE" servers. "Normal" servers have *reduced* PvP interaction.

BTW, another scenario you people seem to willfully forget:

One of my guildmates is being corpse camped while trying to complete a quest. He is level 30. I am level 60. Everyone on at the time is level 60. His harassers are level 30, but outnumber him 10:1. I can't help him at all because I would accrue dishonor, ruining my contribution points for the week or possibly making my faction NPC's unfriendly to me. "Sorry Billy, guess you have to logout. And I guess there's no point in being in a guild since no one can help you!"

Now before you say, "you must be some low level n00b". I have 12 different characters across various realm types and my highest is a level 52 Druid, so don't even go there.

Hate to say it, but when it's as easy as it is in WoW to get to level 60, if you bought the game at release and still don't have a level 60 with gear from end-game instances, you're a "low level n00b".

Anyway, obviously during internal testing they found dishonor griefing to be too detrimental to gameplay. In case you forgot, an honor system including dishonor was going to be in the game at release, but they held it back for 5 months, in favor of a system without dishonor for killing players. They wouldn't do that "just for the hell of it". And even though they call it an honor system, it's obviously just a point system like frags in an FPS.

If you're smart, you're going to be going for the highest point value targets. If you're level 60, that's other level 60's. And you're going to kill them solo so the points aren't split. So they reward the most "honorable" (in the eyes of many players) kills the most. Just because "HK" pops up on the screen when you just killed that level 48 in a raid group for the 4th time, doesn't mean you're getting any more than a single contribution point. (A rank 0 level 60 killing another rank 0 level 60, dealing 100% of the damage to that player, not in a party, gets 166 points for the first kill.)

All you need for a DOOM movie:
Teleportation experiment gone awry opens portal to another dimension or planet that may or may not be hell.

It doesn't really have to be on Mars, but that helps. It doesn't need zombies, but they help. The monsters don't have to be demons, but that helps.

Resident Evil IN SPACE! doesn't cut it. And you KNOW that's the phrase they used to sell this.

Quake. The original. So far nothing has beat it for pure fun factor or replayability in my book. It's the only FPS I go back and play through the entire game at least once every 6 months. Sure it only takes me about an hour to do so, but it's still fun.

If it's not TF2, I won't be suprised. It'll probably be another one of their mods no one plays, like Riccochet.

I'm always shocked Valve gets the crap for TF2 that they do. They pulled resources to concentrate on HL2. So what? They get more flak for this than Lucasarts gets for canning Sam and Max as well as Full Throttle 2. People act like it's totally unheard of for a game to appear at E3 and then vanish. People also act like there isn't a chance TF2 will show up soon.

You don't understand, maybe because you weren't a gamer back then, but QWTF was the most played FPS game on the internet for quite a few years, even beating out Quake2 and all of its mods for a while. The only thing it could compare to is present day Counter-Strike. Now imagine that instead of CS:S they had announced "Counter-Strike 2", and had been showing screenshots and movies and telling about all the revolutionary features it would have, and imagine its graphics were way beyond what you see in CS:S currently, and that they already had a release date set. Then they come out with CS:S instead (like they did TFC) which is just the same game as CS but with better graphics and watered down gameplay (which isn't really the case with CS:S but was DEFINITELY the case with TFC) and never mention CS2 ever again except once a year saying "it's not a dead project" for 4 years.

Oh let's not forget the fact that when TF2 was going to be a Quake2 expansion half the TF player base bought Quake2 and then never ended up playing it, and then it was going to be a HL expansion so everyone bought that and all they got was TFC which was a pile of crap.

Valve is definitely deserving of the ire they get from TF fans.

a technology Valve was demonstrating in Team Fortress 2 (and said to be definately included in Source), was somethign I call "localised voice chat."

Erm, they already introduced this technology into HL1. You can already do this in your own HL1 mod, they just chose not to use it in any of their mods because they realized it was not fun and did not add anything to the gameplay of their mods.

As one of the few reasonable people who realized at E3 2003 that this game was not going to make the Sept 30 ship date and that the delay was not due to the content/code leak or "Steam not being ready", I think all of you silly fan boys owe me some appologies!

Just kidding I don't really care. The article is an interesting read. Now where's my TF2?

*sigh* Ever since Steam came out you've been able to manually backup your GCF files so you wouldn't have to redownload everything. It's just that now HL2 will have an automated method of doing it.
