You know, I've heard of that renderer for awhile now, but that's the first time I followed the link. My god...DX and UT both look outstanding.

There goes my weekend!

Thanks!

Re: UT online, I had an issue with an anti-cheating mod that downloaded from servers I was trying to connect to. I forget the name of the mod offhand but most servers have it. All I know is the latest d3d10 renderer version 23 didn't work but version 22 does so use that renderer if you want to play UT online. I thought it was slick how a game from 1999 auto-downloaded the anti-cheat mod and I didn't need to fuss with manually installing it. Also, I was running the GoG version of UT (v436) fyi.

I know I've never played anything from Epic that I thought was worth more than $20 out of the gate.

I agree except for two games. Unreal Tournament and the first Unreal I suppose. Back then everyone was ooohing and ahhing over graphics and the AI enemies [in Unreal] and how they rolled out of the way into cover. UT? I just played it this past weekend with the updated d3d10 renderer that's out there and it's still fun to play online or single player against bots.

I fired it up before work and looked around the menus some. Not too happy about the micro-transactions in it though. I never bought a TF2 DLC yet have to constantly keep downloading updates (on my slow link) which mostly just add DLC items. I hope Portal 2 isn't the same way but I doubt it.

The marketing campaign worked on me. I was putting off buying P2 until I saw Thursday that it may come out and be playable over the weekend. So I pulled the trigger and started the pre-load. It will be nice if it is playable a day early or something but no biggie if not. I've played more super meat boy this weekend and still haven't tried the Civ5 DLC I bought last week yet either so it's not like I don't have other games to keep me occupied.

I forgot to post yesterday that yesterday was exactly 10 years since I signed up on Blues! Wow that's a long time and doesn't seem possible. I know I don't have as many posts as others that have been here 10+ years but I still visit the site at least 5-6 times a week if not more.

Hmmm, I just looked at http://www.dailywritingtips.com/passed-vs-past/

and I guess I was wrong since it is being used as an adverb maybe since get is the verb? It still sounds wrong but whatever

Page 18 one of the panels says, "get past the turrets". Should be passed not past. Sorry to be a grammar nazi but silly mistakes like that bother me when I am reading...

From the game packs listing I think it's strange they have the arcade version and Atari 2600 version in the same packs. That's like packaging the blu-ray version of a movie with the VHS version...

Glad I didn't buy this at release. Definitely waiting on the $15-$20 sale/Target clearance price, if I buy it at all.

You and me both. I realize it has console versions too but there is no Sony or Xbox license fees for the PC version so why is the PC version the same price as console versions? I can wait for x-mas sales...

There's a simple solution....VPN. Just sign up for a VPN account at any of the many providers (I use strongvpn myself), set your VPN server to somewhere in the USA, and download and play on the release date.

I hope they have an option to save video only to the local hard drive vice the STEAM cloud though. My connection is slow and I doubt I would use vidcap if it always had to be saved to the cloud.

When it comes to the dying genre of flight sims my reservations about DRM relax just a little. I really don't want to see flight sims gone from the market and replaced with console ports of fly-on-rails eye candy kiddie games.

Don't get me wrong though, I will never buy any game with DRM that leaves CPU hogging processes running that don't uninstall when the game is uninstalled.

I remember when 3D support in a game meant it needed a graphics accelerator to run.

The 3D fad shall pass, but not before emptying many a wallet.
