"everything you love about MechWarrior," with a combination of "turn-based strategy and blends tactical gameplay, deep collectability, and unique online features"

What?

Lol.. yeah, that doesn't really parse. The "collectability" and in-game store aspects make me wary as well. Sounds like another F2P game. Hope they don't end up like the MtG games. That shit is annoying and I refuse to buy those games. Would like another EtherLords game instead.

That KoAR review is pretty lousy. The guy talks like the game is great, going so far as to say that combat is where it really shines, and then utterly fails to describe the combat at all. He spends all the time talking about the skill trees and such, and none on the actual meat of the game, which is the combat. WTF?

I played through the demo and found it rather boring and annoying for the most part. It's not very open. The combat, as far as I could tell, wasn't very interesting or challenging. Maybe it gets better, but the demo was a yawner. Then he also says that by halfway through the game he was so rich and powerful that he could buy pretty much everything, and apparently a lot of areas were too easy.

I think I'll pass on this one.

But even from kind of a more general point of view, you have services like Steam or Origin where these many purchases and micro-transactions and all these transactions were making through multiple companies are kind of tied to this overreaching account.
I wonder if that's the word he really intended there, or more of a Freudian slip.

Because hard disk space is so precious, amiright?

No, the bandwith and time to download 3GB weren't worth it.

Bandwidth is practically free unless you have a pretty onerous bandwidth cap, and you can download overnight or whenever you're not using your system. This really makes no sense.

That sound mod looks (err sounds) cool.

Yeah...I'm still on the fence. While the dungeons especially are missing sufficient sound ambiance this mod seems "too much".
I think it's pretty good. Keep in mind that they amplified the new sound effects to make them stand out in the video. Most of them were pretty good I thought. The bat-wing flapping sound was too repetitive though. I think they might need to work on that one. It didn't sound right. I did like the bird and bug sounds from the wilderness video, and the rain and ocean sounds make a HUGE difference

I can easily see this mod being a must-have. It just seems like the world will be so much more alive with it.

One of the things I don't like about Skyrim is that the main quest line isn't really any grander than some other big quest lines.

If the DLC has some more involved content, I might consider it, but still likely to wait for a substantial sale.

I'll take it case by case, but if they release some good stuff, along the line of Knights of the Nine, I'll definitely be buying.

I run FF for days or weeks with a hundred or so tabs open at any given time. No problems here. You must have come across a bad plugin/addon or two.

After the last one, I'm staying far away from this until and unless it proves itself worthy. I have no confidence in their ability to create a good game. FC2 could have been a good game. It had a lot of the right qualities and felt right in a lot of ways. They just made so many incomprehensible design decisions about how the game would play. It was ridiculous, and if they couldn't see it, then I'm sure they're going to find ways to fuck it up again.

As for Alpha Protocol, I'm really not seeing why people think it's so buggy. Compared to the other games you and I have mentioned, it was relatively polished. It also had the best implementation of choice & consequence I've ever seen, in addition to a genuinely engaging conversation system where you actually have to pay attention to what the NPC is saying.
I just wanted to chime in to agree whole-heartedly with this assessment of Alpha Protocol. It had some bugs, but nothing terrible. I loved it though, and played through it three times in a row. Give me more of that!

Any way to get a beta key without being on Facebook? I registered an account on their site, but it doesn't really say anything about whether that will get me a key or not. Anytime I click the "Register for Beta" link, it just makes me login again and then I'm back at the main page. Their site kinda sucks.

From the article:
In an email, she said that security was "a priority at all times" and that the company would do all it could to safeguard its users' information. The email went on to blame the hacker for "illegal and prohibited cyber criminal activities."

I'm thinking she doesn't really understand what "security" means. It's generally there to protect against exactly what she is blaming the hacker for. She apparently thinks security is equivalent to "the honor system". We'll keep your info safe as long as those hackers promise not to do anything "illegal and prohibited." Wow.

Besides, who actually pays for porn anyway?

I cant believe that no one even mentioned DS9. That series was vastly superior to TOS and TNG. At least in my opinion. It was a bit darker in theme and had more action scenes than you can shake a stick at, but it still featured some incredible episodes, the best characterization of any ST series and pretty much all the good sci-fi stuff any trek fan would want.

IMO the best Trek movie has to be ST6: The Undiscovered Country. It had diplomacy, combat, prison escapes, a suspense mystery and some very memorable acting from all concerned.

Wrath of Khan is overrated...

It was mentioned in the post right before yours, and a few others as well.

I finally just made Chrome my default browser the other day. Firefox causes my video card to crash regularly with the nvidia VPU recovery nonsense. After installing Chrome it's amazing how much faster browsing seems now.

Funny, today I made the switch back to Firefox as my default browser after having had Chrome in that spot for a few years. There's no noticeable performance difference to me, Firefox works better with a few flaky websites, and the Firefox extensions still can't be beat.

What really drove the switch was Chrome's shitty download and bookmark managers, with no good extensions to improve them because of the way Chrome is designed. Sure, a bad extension in Firefox can cause more problems, but the access it has to the browser is also what makes them better.

I discovered Tab Grouping shortly after transitioning all of my bookmarks, and it sealed the deal. I'll still keep Chrome (and Opera) installed, but for now Firefox wins.

The number one add-on that keeps me using Firefox is Tree Style Tabs. Best way to handle lots of tabs that I've found so far, and I regularly have 60 to 100 tabs open all the time. Adblock, Noscript, and Better Privacy are also must-haves.

You realize that's been an on going 'nvidia driver' problem since the 280 releases right? Pretty much for the last 6mo, and there's pushing 80k complaints on the topic on nvidia's forums. This is known as the TDR bug.
Is this a problem with all nvidia cards, or just some of them? I was just considering shopping for a new card, but I definitely don't want one that's going to mess up FF for me. Would go with AMD for sure if that's the case.
