To even things out - because we were short a holiday up here compared to the US - they gave us "Family Day". I have no idea what it means but if we were picking days for holidays most people would choose Halloween I'm sure.

I might choose the day after Halloween...

Yes, it should be what the know how to do best and what they created one of the best selling video game series and titles of all time.

I love when people say "oh, so they're doing something similar to what made them beloved and rich? What idiots!"

Is it sad that I knew this post was from Beamer before I even looked at the name?

Dude, I HOPE to God you are getting a cut of some game company's profits, and not just parroting the corporate line for nothing. I mean, at least a whore is making money... but a slut is just a slut...
He's exactly right though. Making FPS games for the dude-bro console market makes them a shit-ton of money. By PC standards the games suck ass, but for consoles, they are considered good. They've found their niche, which is why Bungie is irrelevant to me.

I'll wait and see if it shows up on Steam too. If not, then I probably won't buy it. Maybe pick it up at a deep discount around Xmas or next year.

Yeah, I never seem to be able to finish one before I move on to some new shiny thing Can't really complain about a game being too long though. I enjoyed my time with the games anyway, even if I didn't finish.

Alpha Protocol is a great game too. Aside from somewhat finicky controls in a couple of the minigames, it's a lot of fun. Good story, and choices that actually have an impact on what happens and what choices you will have later! I really wish more games were like this. I played through it three times in a row when I first got it, and a couple more times later. As long as you're not trying to play it as just an FPS rather than an RPG, you'll probably have a good time with it.

I guess I pretty much agree with the consensus here. Make a new Fallout game with the Skyrim engine and don't set it in New Vegas. I lost count of how much time I spent with FONV. I'd be all over another game like that.

Not sure what city or area would make a good setting. No interest in LA, so what's left in the west? Portland, Seattle and SF have been mentioned. Denver? SLC?

Edit: I want to jump back into Skyrim to play through the DLC now, but I know it's going to take a lot of time to update my mods and look into some of the new ones.

smartTV is the "selling feature" of the moment for TV's.

Almost completely bogus since the firmware-based apps will be supported for maybe 2 years max.
Yeah, with all the various crap I have in my theater setup, I only care about the TV having a good picture. Everything else is handled by something else anyway, and those things are generally much cheaper and get replaced more often.

I used to have that Panasonic one on the right. Last year I got a Harmony 650, which was cool for a while, but then it just started constantly rebooting itself, making me go through tutorial crap again each time. Returned it last week. Now I'm looking for a better one.

Way to keep the potential cord cutters in the fold there, TW. Bang up job you're doing.

And on the other end we have...

I hate TW, but I do have Internet access through them. The speed boost was nationwide, and had nothing to do with Google Fiber. The price drop certainly did, though, as the rest of the country saw a price increase.

I've had TW for a while now. Not because they are good, or even a good value, but just because the other options suck even worse.

Yup. Ditto. Fiber is offered across the street from me, and I'd switch to it in a heartbeat if I could, but.

I'll actually have fiber to the home in the place we're about to buy, but the only provider that uses it apparently sucks. They have service issues fairly regularly from what I've read, and they only offer like 20 HD channels, and not even the ones I want. On top of that, they're more expensive than TW for the same sort of TV + Internet package. Maybe they'll get their act together eventually, but for now I think I have to stick with TW.

Maybe there should be a age cutoff for running for office? How about some sort of common sense testing?

I think having common sense would tell you not to run for a political office at all. It defies common sense to open yourself up to the kind of personal attacks (based in fact or not) that anyone running for national office has to deal with. I don't know how many people I have heard now that ran for a senate seat or for congress against an incumbent who came back and said, "if I had known how tough it was going to be and the kind of campaign that would be run against me I never would have even tried." Only people completely lacking in any common sense at all would want to try and endure that more than once.

And supposing you win, what then? You're just a small fish in a huge pond filled with other fish that don't have the sense not to eat that worm with the giant pointy hook protruding from it. So good luck getting anything done.

I was just talking about this with someone earlier today. I live in Texas, so I'm definitely unelectable due to being a moderate and an atheist, even though I do support gun rights. It would cost too much to run anyway. And on top of that, I'd have to spend a ton of money putting out hits on the people that know too much about me already. Not worth it

The more I checked out this game, the more it felt like a tototal scam, I meant they have no minds of their own, how much of this game is just basically ripping off Age of Conan, Lionheart and how many other like titles for their designs.. the more I play its so obvious of what they are doing for their ideas...

I'll start off with the obvious.. see if you can follow up with the others..

1. Beginning... Age of conan washed up at sea
2. Act 2, age of conan again with the bananas..
half the lands are named based upon ripoffs what lore?

The gameplay is fun. I couldn't care less if they ripped off some other lore for the names.

My main gripes are that it's too much zoomed in, even at the max distance, and the inventory. I don't understand why it has to be so goddamn small.

Other than that I'm enjoying the game. I've never seen an ARPG where I felt more involved in the quests and story than this one, and that says alot because this one is nothing to write home about. But how multiple NPC's in a town recognize your accomplishment of a single quest completion is something new, and I like it. Why should only Person A recognize I killed this monster who made everyone's life miserable and not Person B and C as well? Good touch right there.

I also love the potion system. It has a special kinda dynamic of its own. I think it's really well balanced.

Last but not least... those chained women at my health and mana orbs, wow. Gotta trigger every straight guy's imagination.

The potion system has a pretty big and stupid flaw though. You can't stock up on health once you ran out of it in a boss fight. I guess it is a design choice, but if you used those 4 health and 1 mana you are completely done for. I played up to the boss medusa thing, got her down to half health but here stupid freeze attack... anyway, after that I quit and never intend to come back. The potion system works great against mobs, but if there is only 1 extremely strong enemy you are essentially rolling a dice before the battle even starts. With the random misses (hate that too) and that enemies can interupt a skill attack costing you mana ... not the game for me sadly.

(And yeah, I guess stocking up on stronger healing is a solution to tackle the boss, but that requires grinding, a lot of grinding.

You need to change your tactics most likely. I know that that boss is a rather tough fight so early in the game, but she's very beatable if you plan ahead a little. Unless you just have a terrible build and terrible equipment, you should be able to beat her. Definitely equip ice resistance rings and equipment. Makes a big difference. Oh, and a flask that can unfreeze you is good too.

Edit: And like Axis said, throw up a portal once you enter her lair so that you can get back in there if you die. With full flasks, btw. It's not an easy game, but it is pretty fun and interesting.
