Yeah, he really didn't answer the question at all. He just responded to his own straw man instead. Definitely should not trust a word this guy says.

I've basically done the same as this guy, and built every machine I've owned in the past 20 years, aside from laptops. Mostly for the same reasons he gives. I plan to keep on doing that too. They're definitely lasting longer these days, since games don't seem to be pushing them as hard year after year as they used to. Probably get a bit of a boost with the release of the new consoles, but then it'll slow down again pretty quick I suspect.

Not sure if death of homebrew would kill the PC, but it would definitely suck. The price increase for not being able to build your own could definitely contribute to the PC's irrelevancy if that happens though.

I found deck-building to be one of the most engaging parts of MTG and other CCGs, which is another reason why I haven't been very interested in these annual releases. You're right about these not really being P2W though. That's more MTG Online's territory.

Magic: The Gathering - Duels of the Planeswalkers 2013 on Steam.

Never played these before, but holy cow...is it just a game designed to sell you more stuff?

Granted the train simulator still wins, cost wise...

Well, no because there's no competition in the train sim. It's solely for hobbyists where TCGs are all about P2W if you plan on playing anyone other than the AI. I like the gameplay of TCGs but I could never get into anything that's designed like that.

Yeah, I wish they'd make another game like Etherlords, with CCG-type gameplay, but primarily single-player. No way am I getting into the P2W arms race for something like MTG.

I loved Syndicate, but thought SW was a step backwards in most ways. Would love to see a new game in the vein of the original, but I'm not gonna get my hopes up.

Hi er, I played the Drox Operative demo but could not get into it because of the combat. While combat is not the be all end all, I still want it to be as engaging as possible, when it does occur.

The trick will be to keep the player entertained enough to want to upgrade his ship. Since starting out with a fully upgraded ship to me isn't very fun at all. Which is why I take a page out of Starflight's book here, basic ship at the beginning. Perhaps you are at the mercy of more powerful aliens, but they should watch out once you roll out your upgrades.

Or you could probably go destroy their pirate bases just for ransoming you back when you couldn't defend yourself.

Looks like the game has potential. Reminds me somewhat of Escape Velocity Nova, which was a great game that gave you quite a bit of freedom and let you do things your way for the most part. The real key to games like this for me is that sense of freedom, and in having a lot of possibilities for things to do. You may not be able to do them all in one play-through, but that's not really a bad thing in my opinion.

Dark Souls at $7.50 is tempting. I know the game will make me cry like a girl because I have trouble with only moderately difficult games, but the gamer in me still wants to give it the old college try. I am a little surprised that the Amazon listing shows it requires Steam AND GFWL, but I already learned to put up with the horrible GFWL when I played Dawn of War 2 and Dead Rising 2, so no biggie.

Yup.

Same here. I'd be happy if every game ever made ever again used Steamworks myself.

Mostly because you couldn't possibly keep track of all the crap you own without your Steam library.

Dishonored and Skyrim for $15 each is a great deal. Lowest prices yet. $10 for New Vegas Ultimate Edition is a great deal too. If for some twisted reason you have yet to play any of these games, now's a good opportunity to do so.

Hitman: Absolution just dropped to $5 too on Amazon. It's not a very good Hitman game but if you enjoyed Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, you'll probably enjoy Absolution. For $5, you're not exactly taking a huge risk.

I've never bought from GamersGate before. Is there anything different about them compared to sites like GreenManGaming? Will I get a Steam key for the game?

They're currently out of keys for Dishonored too apparently, but I'm gonna be gone all weekend anyway, so I can wait I guess.

If you dupe gold on a game that features a real money marketplace. Are you not committing a counter-fitting crime? I'd be interested to see where a lawsuit could take this kind of cheating...

Nope, its the players that decide if the (duped) gold is worth it. A fool and his money...

With all due respect to dj Lith, I'm with Closed Betas on this, I would like to see what a govnement some where says about.

If they don't have the clout of a big bank or hedge fund, then yeah, it could easily be illegal. If you can afford a bunch of good lawyers, then you're fine. It's just financial innovation.

Wonder how many lawyers you can buy with 100 billion D3 gold...

Yeah... I don't buy that at all, but whatever. I wouldn't blame them at all for wanting to kick the NRA in the nuts for that BS. Then I remember this is EA, and I wish they'd just pummel each others' nuts mercilessly.

So DRM-free for backers. This is different than SRR how?

It's clear in what they wrote. Not to mention they're being much more honest and upfront about things. No mention of DRM at all, unless you would prefer it on Steam than GOG.

"For both Torment and Wasteland 2, we're not using Steamworks and you won't be forced to use any single retailer option to access any part of the game or be able to use modding. We'll put the game on retailers that use DRM, like Steam or Origin, sure, because our backers can decide for themselves if they prefer that option, and we're agnostic to where you get the game."
So they're promising more than SRR did. Good for them. Still don't get the whining about SRR though. People seem to have made up their own ideas of what they should deliver rather than what they said they'd deliver.

They could get even more funding by offering something around the $15.00 tier. There are many other TBS kickstarter games that offered that tier, even if limited, yet these guys said they didn't think it was fair to have a tier at that level, especially a limited one.

That's just kind of dumb. Most every other KS has done that, and people don't seem to find it unfair. We all want to see the game get made. Some are just willing and able to kick in more than others, and get a few extra perks for it.
