They'll probably be holding off on any new Star Wars games until the new movies start coming out.

Shadowrun: Hong Kong passed the 500K mark yesterday apparently. With about 4 weeks to go, hopefully they'll hit all their stretch goals and come up with some more.

I could see a 30 day jail sentence as reasonable but five years? Waaaay over the top and not beneficial to anyone.

30 days? A huge waste of manpower and a totally not insignificant chance that the SWAT team shoots someone in the raided place. Throw him away for life. He's 33 years old, it's not like a little kid did it.

5 years is a pretty long time. Seems appropriate in this case. I could certainly see a much longer sentence if someone had been killed or injured.

Yes, Dragonfall is much better as the overall story goes but there's still a ton of irksome little things with the game like not being able to swap items on the fly, use heal spells whenever, it's even just cumbersome using inventory. Technically, the game is still pretty frustrating. And tactically it's pretty shallow. If they were fixing all these things I might take the plunge, but as it is I'll be waiting for the inevitable sale on it instead. Can't say I find their stretch goals in anyway inspiring either.
Enhanced controls, including things like item swapping between characters, was added at the $100K goal. Also includes the ability to toggle turn mode on to better position your team, which I really like as well.

Wow. They're about to hit $350K already. I haven't even had a chance to back it yet. Still looking over the levels, but I'm probably in for $75. I hope they hit all their stretch goals. Some of those sound like they'll make for a much better experience.

Is there general agreement among scientists that humans have evolved over time, or not?” (This phrasing generally makes it easier for people to accept the reality of evolution, since it's not asking about their personal beliefs.)

It's a shitty question, and I can see education playing a role in understanding the different ways that question can be taken.

Is it asking about origins? Is it asking about substantial evolution since 'humanity' has existed? Are they asking if there's been speciation among humans?

Rotten article all around. But no surprise there.
That question is probably the one that I would take issue with the least. It doesn't mention origins, and the theory doesn't address origins, so I don't see an issue there. You're basically inventing separate questions from what was asked.

No. I've defended Wheeler here. Not saying he's good, but saying wait and see. People often get really irate when someone goes from the industry to a position such as this, but it's hard to avoid that because you need someone in this position that really knows the industry, and how can someone have that without having been in the industry?
Not really. You need someone that will represent the interests of the people. They will need a staff that understands the details of the industry and they'll need a finely-tuned bullshit detector in addition to a high degree of skepticism regarding anything the industry tells them.

Beamer wrote on Jan 9, 2015, 11:38:
But that doesn't mean they're tainted. It makes them more open-minded, but it doesn't mean their allegiance doesn't follow. Wheeler's paycheck no longer comes from the cable companies. He no longer represents them, he more represents himself if anything. Some people don't care about this. Most do. And most change.
It absolutely does mean they're tainted. They almost always go right back to that same industry once their tour in office is done. That certainly makes for a conflict of interest.

Beamer wrote on Jan 9, 2015, 11:38:
Have you guys ever switched jobs? Especially to a competitor? You spend years at one job, talking about how much you hate the competitor. Then they give you a job offer and suddenly you see the other side of the argument. You don't come in deliberately doing things that sabotage your new employer. You suddenly see how some of the things you thought before may have been wrong or misguided.
That's not even close to the same thing as being in a position to regulate the entire industry and actually representing the interests of public. Business pretty much hates anything that doesn't allow them to maximize their profits, which is often in direct conflict with what is best for the country as a whole, which is why we have regulation to begin with. I don't want someone who's going to hold back on doing what is in the public interest because he thinks it might make it hard to find a job in the industry again when he leaves office.

Beamer wrote on Jan 9, 2015, 11:38:
But until he actually does something, and what he does actually does something, I'm also not celebrating or applauding him. Benefit of the doubt means neutral, not positive. You get positivity for doing something right, not alluding to doing something right or attempting to do something right.
I'm fine with that, but I'm still pretty skeptical that he's actually going to do something positive, rather than something that ends up only paying lip-service to net neutrality, while allowing business as usual to continue.

Some sites have done a good job with their updates. I like what Ars Technica did with their site. A lot of sites do make a mess of things though, and there's a lot more ways to get it wrong than right.

The FCC has the power to reclassify them as Title II, they've done reclassification like that before. I don't see that anything they've proposed would require Congress to do anything at all, unless they want to implement some new classification altogether or something along those lines. Not that I think they're actually going to do that, though. They'll probably do something stupid that won't solve any problems and will end up simply letting companies continue to screw their customers over as usual.

I picked up a few as well. South Park, Starpoint Gemini 2, Kerbal Space Program, Defense Grid 2, The Wolf Among Us, and some Rocksmith DLC.

Nothing else has hit the right price point for me yet. I did manage to set up a list at IsThereAnyDeal though.

I thought the hyperbolic and rather threatening language was the more interesting bit. All in all though, the thing reads like something that Kim Jong Un would have said in The Interview
"If the US persists in American-style arrogant, high-handed, and gangster-like arbitrary practices despite repeated warnings, the US should bear in mind that its failed political affairs will face inescapable deadly blows."

I thought the DMS campaign was OK, and Dragonfall was great, so I don't regret supporting the original Kickstarter at all. I'll be in for this one too most likely. Anxious to hear what they're planning.

I was having fun with it for a few days. Then started having problems with my vid card (Asus R9 280X). Getting really bad artifacting in that game. The kind that looks like giant opaque polygons obscuring everything. Almost like a screen shattering effect.

I've tried the last few versions of the Catalyst drivers, and I think I'm going to try the 14.4 version tonight since some people had suggested that. If that doesn't work, I think I'm screwed.

Shame really that such censorship exists. If they replaced 'people' with 'zombies' - no one would bat an eyelid.

That's because there is a massive different between cold blooded slaughter of innocents for "fun" vs fighting for survival against a monster (that is already dead anyway).

In a game? What's the difference? You press a button, animation plays, scripts fire, particles fly from emitters, models play animations, red decal left behind... such difference, what amaze!

In case you didn't get my lame meme use, I am saying, there is no friggin gameplay difference AT ALL. You are arguing over how a model looks, not how gameplay is.

If you replaced all l4d zombies with babies, nuns and angels it would change nothing about the gameplay.
Like Cutter said, intent matters. It's not just about the gameplay. It's about what it represents. These guys have gone out of their way to make a game that portrays you as a guy intent on murdering innocent civilians in graphic detail, without so much as a fig leaf of a plot reason for it beyond you hating the world.

This game is the kind of murder simulator that anti-game groups are always going on about. I don't see why Valve should support that.

The lagging is on certain abilities, shield charge/cyclone being the two major culprits.

Since shield charge is kinda useless, I moved to whirling blades and haven't had a lag death since (3 f#cking hardcore characters all killed due to shield charge rubberbanding while trying to escape...)

As for the uber builds with ultra expensive items, I've been using the Sovyn's lazy pally build (max shield block tank templar) and have spent relatively little (bout 5 ex all up, all of that self earned). Considering 5 ex won't get you a single high tier item for some builds, being fully equipped and being capable of doing 85+ maps by standing there and tanking everything is pretty good. 18k dps reave as the main attack.

Block got nerfed in the recent patch, but they've made a lot of good changes to the Templar part of the tree to make it more competitive with the other classes, so it is probably still a pretty good build, even if maxing out block is a lot harder now.

I'm about to jump into the new league now, just trying to decide what sort of build I want to start with... that's always the hardest part

Pretty straight forward for me:

Step 1: Level farmer (summoner, totem, etc)
Step 2: Learn new league mechanics and let bugs/balance work out.
Step 3: Level buttkicker.

Yeah, I'm starting out with a flame totem build that I should be able to get at least some decent MF with. Won't be low-life or anything, but hopefully enough to get some decent currency. Plus I've never done a flame totem build before, so should be interesting.
