It amazes me how Legos are looking less and less like Legos these days. Whatever happened to the bricks with the bumps on them that you stuck together to build stuff?

News Comments > More on id and EA - Rage Movie
33. Re: No subject Jul 15, 2008, 17:28 Jim

The game looks like it could be fun. Hopefully you get some freedom and aren't shoved down a path the whole time.

Well usually a tech demo is meant to show off all that is the best, and from what we've seen here, you're being shoved down quite a narrow path. id engines have never been able to do the large, open environments, and this one seems to be similar. Sure you now get to drive around outside (hey, vehicles! yeah they're pretty late to the game with this as well), but it looks like you're going down a relatively narrow canyon most of the time. They certainly have nice looking engines, and can deceive you into thinking there's a large, open area, but I'd say that if you want true freedom of exploration of large areas, you're limited to Flight Simulator.

"I'll admit that, if you asked me years ago, I still had thoughts that EA was the Evil Empire, the company that crushes the small studios...I'd have been surprised, if you told me a year ago that we'd end up with EA as a publisher. But when the Wells Fargo truck showed up, and they kept hauling in bag after bag of money, well, I was ready to drop my pants and spread my cheeks right there in the lobby."

LOLOL!

SELLOUT! Money talks. I have lost a lot of respect over the last week for Carmack. I guarantee id gets bought out - but what does he care - he will get a phat payday.

IMO id stopped being relevant (in ironically the very industry they created) years ago.

News Comments > No Far Cry 2 Demo
33. no demo = no purchase Jul 12, 2008, 11:32 Jim

I hate to say it but I really think PC gaming is on a decline. Practically no one makes demos anymore, and that's what used to get me to shell out $50 for a game.

Oh well, more money to blow on my astronomy toys I guess

By far the best thing I've ever seen done with 2nd life. For obvious reasons Starry Night is one of my favorites, so its always nice to see it recreated in another medium.

...and lol @ Jedi Gym.

Ok, let's say they get $100 a copy, why don't they just GIVE AWAY 3 million copies? If they did that, would they not accomplish their goal of getting more people to use Vista?

Darn, let's take it back and get a new one!

Seriously, what shocks me the most is that they were surprised by this and expected it to be perfectly round? What in nature has a perfectly round form? Just about every thing we look at out in the universe has some sort of irregularity to it, even if it is somewhat symmetric.

1. Astronomy Jul 2, 2008, 11:44 Jim

Since it mentioned astronomy I had to read it. After I finished reading it, I had to Google "Azeroth" since I had no clue what that word meant.

Conclusion: lamest use of astronomy I've ever seen.

Only $100M? Why not ask for $1B? If you are going to waste the time, go big.

I thought the going rate for a new pair of pants in legal litigation-land was only $65M. Has inflation really been that high?

That Rube Goldberg machine is really impressive.

Very true. Part of what makes it amazing is the fact that it is made almost entirely of paper, string, and toilet paper tubes. Nothing more elaborate than simple house-hold items. In fact, the balls are probably the most exotic components of the system.

You guys who think the creature creation video was NSFW have overactive imaginations.

The video seems to have been removed.
