Yeah it's odd with the holiday on a Wednesday, it's almost pointless. I may end up working through and taking another day off later to make a long weekend.

Fireworks started over a month ago in my neighborhood and will probably last through much of the summer. And it seems just about every weekend there is an officially sanctioned (as in, not kids popping them off in their backyards) fireworks display somewhere within earshot of here. I remember when fireworks were shot off only 2 nights a year, now it seems they are done so often that it takes away from the "special occasion" factor. And it would be really awesome if the 4th of July was recognized as something other than just an occasion to blow stuff up.

Spaceships shaped like giant, curled-up poop.

For what it was, I enjoyed the film. What I was quite surprised about was all the "how unscientific" commentary there was about it. Um, yeah, that's why it's called science FICTION.

Never knew there was a law for that to begin with. It's a good thing I was never fined for taunting my opponents in UT2004 and deceiving them as to my whereabouts and actions on the field of play.

Yes, properly built houses and neighborhood planning can save so much cost in energy and pollution.

Just how the housing faces and where the windows are located makes a HUGE difference, let a lone proper insulation and airflow....

Yes and it's amazing how little thought goes into something as basic as solar angles when houses are built these days. This is the main reason why I plan to have a house built rather then buying an existing one.

News Comments > RAGE DLC Plans?
15. Re: RAGE DLC Plans? Jun 19, 2012, 13:26 Jim

I never played Rage, mainly because I didn't have a PC that would handle it at the time it came out, but then I simply forgot it existed.

I then heard it wasn't all that great (maybe it was better than Duke Nukem Forever, I didn't play that one either) and decided not to bother.

It is ironic that I started coming to Blues News way back in the day because this site was dedicated to ONE (and only ONE) anticipated game release by id Software, now they don't even make waves in the industry they created.

Kickstarter for a video game, maybe that's what 38 Studios should have done, instead of the kick-in-the-balls we ended up getting for it.

Bwahahahahaha!!!! Hahahahahahaha!!!! Hahahahahahahaha!!!!! If that were the case the ACI would be bigger than the Johnston landfill.

While my opinion of Curt Schilling has taken a sharp downturn, I still fault EDC for "allowing" this whole thing to happen.

Schilling says he could lose $50 million of his own money in 38 Studios implosionů

I'm sure all the people that didn't get paid and/or lost their jobs feel just horrible for him...

Don't blame Schilling. Read about this story before you comment. The current governor was opposed to the loan before he took office. When he took office he basically fucked 38 studios over. He refused to release part of their loan, refused to give them tax credits they had been promised, and then made public comments bashing the company which scared away private investors.

If Schilling made a horrible error, it was moving the company and taking a co-signed loan with RI. The people who lost their jobs know exactly why, and from the posts by former employees, they know Curt did everything he could to save their jobs. If you want a scapegoat, look no further than your friendly neighborhood fucking politician. He basically fucked RI residents into paying off this loan because he wanted to act like a child.

While I'm not defending the governor, I place blame for this whole mess on the EDC. No one in their right mind would have given Schilling a $75 million loan guarantee for an unproven and highly unrealistic business venture in the first place. Everyone knew this before the deal was signed.

The tax credits were intended to lure the film industry into Rhode Island, and even if extended to 38 Studios probably wouldn't have saved them.

This state is notorious for its politicians which Alan Dershowitz has called "The most corrupt in the country". The State has a checkered past with rumored Mob involvement in municipal projects (a running joke here is you'll never see a public construction project being done by a company that doesnt have a vowel in the owners last name). Appointments to positions and elected officials look at their positions as an opportunity to enrich themselves and friends. For example, "The Providence Place Mall" was pitched as a high end mall with expensive boutique outlets, gourmet dining (Think Copely Place in Boston) etc. Studies showed it would be untenable financially since the number of high income residents who could afford to shop there were'nt enough to support the place. The study results landed on deaf ears, bonds were floated, deals made without public input. It is now allowing in "Dollar Tree" and Trading card shops....ie; anyone who is willing to pay the rent.

Hump, do you remember when that mall was first built, the running joke was that "Providence Place is wired to be a casino"? But yeah, after 6pm I won't set foot in that place.

38 Studios was a similar deal. A few politicos begged the company to locate here with tax breaks and funding. It was put through with out a single bit of input from taxpayers. Not a single politician is claiming responsibility for the wrongheaded deal to begin with.

This was seen by many of us before the papers were even signed for the Studios to move in. As usual we get to foot the bill for some scumbags who feel the state is their personal Kingdom

I hope there is an investigation against EDC. There is no way 38 Studios burned through that much cash in that short a time.

As for the 379 former employees, they best move out of state. With 10.2% unemployment, and not much of a software industry to speak of, the prospects here are not that good.

So, next loan payment due in November 2012, next game due no sooner than June 2013, equals missed loan payment.

Sounds to me like 38 Studios needs to diversify themselves a bit to find another revenue stream. I know, maybe they can open a "compassion center' (local term for medical marijuana dispensary); or maybe get involved with Twin River. Oh wait, I forgot, the state lost its shirt at Twin River too.

Seriously, Creston. What do you think she can do, just decide when she has the baby?

Yeah, I had the same reaction. What the fuck kind of response is that to anything?

No, it's more like "hey, the first loan payment is due in 9 months. Let's fuck."

Call me crude, but as a RI taxpayer, I'm unwillingly paying for this mess and have been rightfully pissed off about the whole thing.

Latest news, 38 Studios fails to make payroll. So yeah, they bounced the loan check AND don't have enough in the kitty to pay their employees. Time for an independent audit. What the fuck did they do with the $75M?

NOBODY I know thought this was a good idea going in. A $75 million loan guarantee for a small and unproven video game company to bring 450 jobs into the state was unrealistic even from the start. The only people who thought it was a good idea were the morons in the State House and the EDC. They are meeting behind closed doors as I type this trying to figure something out, 38 Studios is asking for the "film tax credit" to alleviate their financial burden, while the taxpayers are coming to terms with the fact that we have been fucked out of $75 million barely a year after the initial deal was done. I'd like to see the feds get involved and someone needs to go to prison for this.
