Bite me.

How did you know I go to church? Very clever.

But just because I do, don't lump me in with the screwed up catholic priests who've been molesting children.

And since when am I not allowed to be a gamer and go to church?

Porn *is* exploitative, and people like Jenna Jameson only show that in this world people will put up with being exploited if the money is right.

Which is quite a sad state of affairs really.

The reason I don't like porn is nothing to do with prudishness, and all to do with the fact that it's exploitative and wrong.

*awaits monster argument*

16. Ah, Quake 1... Dec 11, 2002, 21:00 Von Helmet

I can't think of any gun in any game I've ever played, that is at all as satisfying to fire as the super nailgun in Quake. It sounds exactly as you'd expect, and really does give the impression that it is lobbing nine inch nails at great speed towards whatever you're firing it at.

No other gun in any game has ever really given me the impression that it's going to kill someone, know what I mean? It just never sounds quite right.

Not all Tycoon games are for non-gamers. Well, they are nowadays, but they haven't always been. Transport Tycoon is pretty good, and Rollercoaster Tycoon (the original, the sequel is the same thing re-hashed... boring) is incredible. However, midway through RCTs lifetime (after they released Added Attractions) things went downhill.

The amount of Tycoon games out now is obscene. Mall Tycoon, Pizza Tycoon, Zoo Tycoon... Heh. My ex-gf showed me Zoo Tycoon a few weeks back. You can't even begin to imagine how unimpressed I was.

Anyway. The franchise is getting out of hand.

I don't entirely get how this game is hoping to benefit from the Playboy branding. If people want porn, they'll just look on the 'net. If they want a good Tycoon type game then there's a million and one out there already.

I just don't get how it increases it's appeal to either camp by using this kind of crossover. Anyone looking for porn is not going to play a computer game to get it - not one of this ilk anyway. Anyone looking for a computer game like this is looking for a game, not porn; and if they want porn in addition to their games they'll look on the 'net.

I really don't think this is going to work.

Playboy *is* porn.

It's just softcore *by today's standards*.

Which are slipping further and further, given some of the hideous pornography that people are producing on the 'net these days.

*shudder*

Keep looking on Kazaa, I got it off there a few months back.

I'll just check WinMX... Yeah, it's there too.

If you've got a fast connection then it shouldn't be too much trouble to download.

id have started selling games on their website, but they cost a mint.

Zig - I don't normally encourage warez, but if you own a legal copy, then I'd say that's your best bet. Go download it off Kazaa or something.

Oh, the good old days.

I played Quake on a Pentium 133 with 16MB of RAM.

Then I got a Voodoo graphics card and downloaded GLQuake. Never looked back I tell you. That was *the* turning point for me.

I'll be downloading Tenebrae fairly soon as I've just won a copy of Quake on eBay

* Figure achieved by comparing performace of Geforce 4 Ti 4600 using new drivers; with that of cheese slice placed in AGP slot using old drivers.

It's definitely Finnish.

If people are desperate to know what it says, post the bits of text here and I'll pass them on to my mum (who happens to be Finnish) and she can translate them.

She may be a bit confused as to what the heck I'm asking about though

Oooh, I've just found what looks like the rules (the Ohje) link. Do people want me to see if my mum can translate them? It looks like it'll take a while to do, so I don't really want to inconvenience her without demand!!

The BIOS setting should only alter which display it seeks first. It should look for PCI, fail, then go to AGP.

It does on any BIOS I've ever seen, anyway!

As for the GeforceFX being remarkably similar to everything Carmack has ever wanted... Of course it is! nVidia and John Carmack are getting this totally symbiotic relationship going on. They make him what he wants, and he makes great engines to use all their features. I'm sure there's features on ATi boards that he could work wonders with, but he just seems to like nVidia and they seem to produce whatever it is happens to be at the forefront of his mind, thus holding his attention.

It's a conspiracy I tells ye!

That's the thing. It's interesting that they find evidence for all these things, so at least we know that the Bible is factually correct.

But yes, as you say it is then a question of belief as to whether you think God caused such things.

Chance - Yeah, I was a bit out of line to respond to Insaneo in the way I did, but I think it's a bit unfair for him to assume that I simply retort to all statements without careful consideration and thought.

It wouldn't be a decent discussion if it didn't leave me with something to think about, and some of the points raised here have made me think.

It just goes back to his idea that I've been brainwashed and will just blindly defend what I believe, which really isn't the case.

Oh, and nice post made by the guy whose name begins with Z... I can't see your name as it's not the post I'm replying to!

You said...

"And he has read the bible and/or gone to church enough so he all kinds of ways to turn anything around that you would use. Quote the bible and he will say thats not what it means. Try philosphy and that won't work."

From what you've said it sounds like I go to church and get taught ways to argue about my faith, ways to turn what you people say around, ways to re-quote the Bible any number of ways to disagree with you people.

That is one heck of a funny idea.

That's not quite what church is about.

Anyway. I don't turn points round. I counter them with well structured arguments, as you may have noticed. If you quote the Bible at me and your interpretation is wrong, I will tell you it's wrong. It's pretty simple. If I don't know the passage in question, I will look it up, check what the resources I have on it say about it, and consult God to see what he has to say. I don't simply come back with "oh, that's not what it means". Lastly, as for philosophy... well, that's a whole other kettle of fish and not entirely relevant here. The closest it's come to that is the metaphysics of whether the Big Bang just turned up out of nowhere or whether God just turned up and started the Big Bang.

So no, I don't just mindlessly turn your arguments around.

Though as I said, the idea that I would ever get taught something like that at church is hilarious.

Captain_Insaneo - Wow, this is getting fun. Keep flaming. Here we go...

"Captain_Insaneo - I'm not sure quite what you're saying here, or in response to what. Please quote what you're responding to in future."

I didn't know which of my posts you were responding to. I've posted a lot on this thread and I wasn't sure exactly which bit you were reffering to. Hence I asked for you to say what it was in response to. Why do you think I always extract the post I'm responding to? It makes things clearer for readers and people I'm responding to.

"Von Halmet your an idiot i'm sorry, don't try to turn it around and make me sound like the stupid one because you have trouble with reading comprehension."

I wasn't trying to make you look stupid.

"I'm responding to all the people challenging you. I know you can read properly because I'm sure you read the bible about a million times, but yet for some reason you can't comprehend a simple post that is written in modern english. Maybe reading all day about fire and brimestone has somehow clouded your ability to read modern day english or something. In reference to my post, which you didn't understand for some reason, I was not talking to you, but all the people who would challenge your beliefs. I wrote:

Why do you people even bother? Your not going to turn him from his believes, even though I don't agree with them either. Its a waste of time. And he has read the bible and/or gone to church enough so he all kinds of ways to turn anything around that you would use. Quote the bible and he will say thats not what it means. Try philosphy and that won't work. Besides trying to force your believes on him makes you quite like him. And trying to shake someones faith is wrong anyhow. If thats what he believes, why do you care?"

Ah, I get it. You're telling off everyone who was trying to sway me from my faith. That's fair enough. I get you now. Sorry, I thought it was directed at me, that's all.
Also, don't talk rubbish at me. I don't read about fire and brimstone in the bible, there's very little of that short of Sodom and Gomorrah (which they found just lately, buried under a whole boatload of sulphur, interesting, huh?). And no, it hasn't clouded my ability to read.
Also, I haven't read the Bible a million times. I'm currently working on reading through the whole of the New Testament at the moment, then I'll start work on bits of the Old Testament.
As far as I know, people aren't trying to turn my beliefs, and I'm not trying to turn theirs. We're just discussing our beliefs and challenging each others. There's nothing wrong with that. People may well know I'm not going to be swayed, but that doesn't stop them being curious or challenging my beliefs.

"Ok, now read the paragraph slowly and try to comprehend. Your best defenses for the attacks people throw at you is your inability to comprehend what people are saying in their post so you never really answer any question, because your an ignorant bigot. And your a mindless zombie that can't think for himself because you've been brainwashed by the church."

When have I failed to answer questions or peoples attacks, and claimed to simply not understand what they're saying? I said I didn't understand you because I didn't. I'd got the wrong end of the stick. It happens you know. Show me questions I've not answered or that I've dodged by claiming not to understand, I don't recall doing that. And if I've failed to answer questions that you or other people still want answering, then bring them back to me and I'll try and answer them more clearly.
I'm not ignorant. I know a fair bit about what I'm talking about, and about the world and how it works. I'm not going to claim to know everything, as I don't, but I'll talk about what I know. And I know a fair bit about my faith and the Bible and christianity so I'll talk about them.
I'm also not a bigot. Show me any times I've been bigoted about stuff? I've not forced my beliefs on anyone or said that anyone's beliefs are wrong. I've corrected people where they've been wrong, but that doesn't make me a bigot, does it?

I've also not been brainwashed. Don't you fucking dare say I've been brainwashed. I've been to very good churches that force nothing on you and don't judge people. I don't know what your thoughts on churches are, but believe me... I'm fairly sure my church doesn't come close to it. Not all churches are like the few you seem to be thinking of. I've been to church all my life but it's never been forced on me, and I spent several years in my early teens re-analysing Christianity and my faith and deciding whether I wanted to be a part of it, and I decided that I did want it in my life. I've not been brainwashed, I made this choice and I'm living by it. It's the brainwashed people who come off talking about who'll get damned and so forth, and I've not done that, have I?

"Is masturbation a sin?"

No, but lust and adultery are.

KTHXBYE
