Hopefully it'll have a scene set in a seedy bar, where someone with a heavy german accent says 'I speeled my dreenk..' over and over again.

A bunch of my buddies from LOTRO guild tried the beta for this and they all had a really good time. They had a lot of good things to say about it.

Buzz seems pretty positive, it's just a question of how many players they can pull away from other MMOs.

LOTRO is by the same developer, has a very active update schedule (Isengard last year, Rohan this year), a really nice playerbase, and a new high-resolution client. And trying it is free - I went back to it a couple of months ago, and so far have not paid any monthly fees at all.

If the graphics of DDO are not up to par for you, LOTRO should pretty much set you up. Then again, note my forum name, and the army of orcs and goblins that bend to my every whim. Mwahaha.

Nah, I'm kidding, it's really that good.

A whole site dedicated to telling me that fantasy boobs aren't realistic.

Do they get paid for that? I could do that

An excellent concept, and academically sound.

A PhD thesis on fake boobs needs to be written. And illustrated. IN HIGH DEFINITION!

We had our AC recharged last week and it's helped, and had the insulation done last Fall. However, we've also been really careful this year to install solid shades behind the regular ones in all south-facing windows. They are not expensive, and it has made a huge difference.

Keeping the sun out makes sure the house stays cool, reducing the load for the AC and the electric bill. Very recommended.

10 Video Games That Should Have Sequels.

Man, a sequel to Grim Fandango would be awesome. Are you listening, Tim Schaefer?

Strangely, it was Grim Fandango and not Quake 2 that convinced me to go out and get a real video card (Voodoo Banshee with whopping 16MB RAM!).

People keep asking for it, and I keep thinking it would be such a bad idea. The story was tied up well, and everything in the universe was basically there for the sake of Manny's plot. It feels like asking for a sequel to Casablanca or Gone With the Wind. What can anyone possibly expect out of it other than the worst kind of cash-in?

Well, Grim Fandango is all about the transition from life to death, but in a lot of cultures it's not a journey, it's a cycle. A sequel could explore the route from death to life.

If you complete the story successfully, Manny ends up as a baby in Mexico.

And his big-dog undead buddy gets reborn as a chihuahua.

Damn. I'm very sorry to hear that, Cutter. I truly hope things get better.

Yeah, me too. He's a great guy but the cancer just doesn't want to seem to let him go Everytime we think we've got it licked something else crops up. It makes me angry more than anything else.

A friend of ours was diagnosed with cancer in her 30's and it turned out she has a genetic predisposition.

It helps her only a little since she is now already screened very regularly as a cancer survivor. However, they also checked for the mutation in her kids, which could end up saving their lives.

I mentioned on here before that I drive an ex-military Land Rover 'lightweight' Air Portable. I sent away for it's military history, which just arrived: she spent her 15 year service with the UK Royal Marines, 40 Commando. How's that for pedigree?!

Nice ride, and great history. Take good care of her and make sure to check the transmission in case of Leadfoot Limeys. :-)

It was the rolled up newspaper. I told you it would work.

It's also super effective on my orcs and goblins, although Shelob needs the weekend edition.

Witcher 1 has pacing problems, in my opinion.

This is true but they make up for it with all the sex and violence. And the boobie cards. Especially those.

You have a new pet/guest in the house of recent? He may be marking his territory for some reason or another. Hmmmmmm

Did you stop feeding him his favorite treat, disrupted walking schedule, etc?

I usually find that smacking the offending animal with a rolled up newspaper works wonders in situations like these. I'm serious - it's really effective.

Just make sure to use one of the light free/giveaway ones - the aim is to tell him did something wrong and reinforce it without hurting him. Don't use the weekend edition - you'll end up at the vet!

Heh, we should institute a new rule for incoming Presidents. At the inauguration ceremony, they have to demonstrate they can find their own ass with both hands.

Bush junior would definitely have failed that test. Senior, maybe not. Clinton definitely would have passed but would have failed the supplementary 'don't f*** your interns' test. The gipper? Hmmm.

Would Obama pass it? Not sure, we'll have a better idea after the election, or maybe in 4 years' time.

Thats wishful thinking. I hear Obama's job creation plan has opened a new chopstick making factory in Alabama (not joking) so thats viable.

Obama has spent more in 3 and a half years than Bush did in his entire two terms, refused to cut enough so that the US credit rating would be lowered, and consistently puts his socialism loving cronies in the UN above US citizens. Yeah I really can't wait til all his obamites vote him in again so he can finish what he started in turning the US into a 3rd world liberal utopian welfare state. It'll be so awesome!

Alternatively, we can go back to GW Bush. Yay?

The one thing that bugs me about LOTRO is that it caters to soloing almost too well. MMOs really start to rock when they encourage (but don't force) well-coordinated group play, and LOTRO just doesn't do that early enough. Apparently it finally gets going at endgame, which is supposedly a lot of fun.

With most MMO's design... you can't have one without the other...that is "encouraging grouping without forcing it". The way they do this is by creating content that you can't possibly solo and HAVE TO "Look For Group". That, my friend, is STILL forced grouping... it's just limited to certain content instead of majority of the content like old-school MMO's were.

Guild Wars 2 is the first MMO that I've seen turn this mechanic on it's head. Most of the Content is Coop only (like oldschool), but they've removed the need to "Look For Group", because the overal design promotes coop, instead of making PVE competitive (No Kill Stealing, No Loot Stealing, No having to form a group first, Etc. etc. Just help kill the shit!!!)

This is a fresh approach to a stale genre, IMO, and I enjoy it immensely. Once one has played a "coop approached" MMO instead of the traditional "solo vs. grouping" MMO, I don't think they'll ever go back.

Yeah, I've had a blast with that. And I notice - so far - at any rate that sort of co-operative style play encourages more postive behavior too. People don't have a need to rag on each other and people are always helping out with kills or rezzing each other. A big step in the right direction.

Is that an open beta? Might have to give it a shot if it is. Thanks!
