I'm guessing that would be corned beef re-hash, with it being Food Network and all.

$50 for an expansion and a monthly fee? Lulz.

Yeah... Rift was fun back when sub games were the only real option. But umm... GW2... over two months in and there's still loads of stuff I haven't done, not to mention a new dungeon, zone, and PVP map coming this week. All that for a one time fee of $60, you can't beat that.

I'm addicted to GW2, to the extent that I haven't even installed the copy of Skyrim or any of the other games I picked up in the summer sale (not quite true, I did play ME2 for an hour). No grind, great graphics, immersive world, encourages collaboration, log on for an hour here and there and still get stuff done. Really well put together, great game design.

I'm also anticipating running dungeons when hitting level 80. In other MMOs it takes ages to put a group together (no tank, no healer etc), but in this one it takes like 5 minutes and the dungeons all seem to take half an hour to finish. And there's still lots of strategy involved in a good run done by skilled players. Fun fun fun, and no monthly fee.

Skyrim was my love affair for like.. four months. I still love it and I really want to get the DLC sometime, too. It's just that it's singleplayer and I tend to devote more time to stuff I can do with friends. GW2 has pretty much dominated my gaming time because of this.

As far as dungeons, I run a lot of them. Some are designed really well, and are what I call challenging but fair dungeons. Others are downright broken. Still, the dungeon content is pretty good just bear in mind that if you go in with 5 DPS you might be able to get through it just not without a hefty repair bill. Having a support player, especially playing a class that does great support like Ele/Necro/Guardian, will make things smoother and ultimately, more fun.

Thanks for the advice! Yep, my main is a big ol' Nord Guardian, and I've been looking at support builds for some time already. Can't have too many (if any) glass cannons in those dungeons - bad for the health and for the wallet.

Is it possible to choke on a stick? Wouldn't it need to be a small tree limb?

I think it depends on the pointyness quotient.

I have a spare hobbit right here. We can test the hypothesis.

Registered players get 3 codes to invite buddies to play for free over the weekend. Pretty nice.

I already used 2 of mine, but still have one left - send a PM if you want it.

Salute

A big thank you and raise of the glass to those who deserve it.
Was cool to see all of the NFL stuff yesterday, unfortunately we had sold 2 tickets of our 4 since our wives couldn't go, but then Saturday my father fell from a pretty decent height onto his dome in the garage and had to get some staples in his skull.

/salute here as well. Sorry to hear about your father, but glad he's OK.

Good dads are under-rated and often taken for granted, but you really miss them when they're gone.

Notch has gone crazy?
Could it be a seed?

I think it's been encrypted using a key. Probably the key is something obvious ('Minecraft' or 'Notch') but I can't get any further with it.

This! Usually, claiming to belong to 4chan gets you kicked out of and then banned from places!

What did they do, pretend to be the New York Times?

Besides which, that statement is offensive. I don't care if the President is Dem or Republican, using that kind of language on or around Veteran's Day is unacceptable. Show some class.

No no, please tell us more! More birther nonsense!

We should give $5 million to a charity of Bats's choice, if he releases his college and passport applications to the Blue's News board.

And yeah, I guess the bad feeling started when Bats and Obama were growing up together in Kenya, and Bats never quite got over it.

How many times does this have to be delayed until people call BS on this?

It was announced in March as "coming this summer".

In June, they announed it would be "late summer." Okay fine.

In July, they announced it would be September 18th.

On September 14th, they announced it would be November 30th.

And now they're saying "hopefully before the end of [summer 2013]"

Man... if this doesn't set of a gigantic number of red flags then, well, I simply don't know.

I'm not saying this is going to be Too Human or Diakatana, but you guys have to have a LIMIT to how much you'll accept and still be hopeful about the project.

I think BG1 is still scheduled for November 30th. BG2 is for summer 2013.

Woo Hoo for classic RPG's!

When it arrives on Android, I'll be all over it. Hoping they can also ship Planescape:Torment to mobile platforms.

Playing BG while lying in bed and sipping a cool glass of something good? Yum.

That's possible, but I'm not sure why anyone would. You get so much money from farming Orr that even with the inflated rates you can easily get 1000+ gems in just a few hours.

The thing about it that sucks is that those who DON'T farm Orr (like me), never have enough money to buy gems to do anything significant. It takes me hours to scrape together another gold piece because I'm doing all the zones, and so I never have the money to buy any kind of decent amount of gems (decent enough to buy some more character or bank slots, for example.)

Sucks, but oh well.

Here's another fun tidbit on TOR:

BioWare’s also announced that free players will accrue experience at a significantly slower rate.

They really have NO FUCKING CLUE on what makes a succesful F2P game.

Creston

I'm about to hit level 50 in GW2, going at a rate of about 10 levels a week, so should be seeing all of this stuff soon, but not yet.

And yep, BioWare seem to have lost the plot. Penalizing free players in terms of basic game mechanics just means that nobody will play. LOTRO has a better model - basic game is free (and fun) and quest packs (ie world content) cost extra. It's not perfect but it works ok. GW2 might have gone too far the other way - everything is free so they're totally dependent on the gem shop for income.

I don't know, to be honest. Judging by the incredible inflation of Gems vs Gold (Used to be 1G got you 400 gems, now it's at 120, and on busy days it goes down to under 100), I think everyone is just zerging Orr and buying gems with Gold...

Creston

I think people are also buying gems for real money, and then selling them on the Trading Post to others, for in-game gold.

It's legal to do that in the game although frowned upon.

They are charging for QUICK SLOT BARS, and no I am not lieing. :p
They are actually charging to have better game mechanics... EA is unbelievable when it comes to being clueless.

GW2 is free to play - the whole game! And it's awesome. Just saying.
