Let me just say this. I seem to be in the minority here. I wanted so much to like the previous X games but never could because they were impossible to get into. It seems like most of the people who dislike Rebirth don't like it because it's not just X3 with better graphics.

I actually prefer it this way! The WHOLE reason I bought this game is because I figured it was going to be a departure from the series. To me, this is a GOOD THING! If you LOVED the previous X games this particular may not be your cup of tea. If you liked the idea of the previous X games but couldn't play for more than 15 minutes, this game is for YOU!

Most people don't like it because of the huge amount of bugs, broken save games (an absolutely DEADLY sin!), the "gameplay" in stations, low frame rates even on Titans, and so on. So it's not really about being a big departure from the usual x games (which many say, IT IS NOT), but about a lot of other things. In short: it's because it's a messed up release. That's why I will keep my money and Egosoft can keep their game until it's patched up and then maybe I'll buy it. What I would like to see is Privateer. The controls were fine, the gameplay was good, the story was, well, alright. Just do Privateer 3 with modern graphics, and I'd willingly pay $60 for it, unless it's totally broken at release.

Wow. Just wow. So, beyond the bugs even the gameplay and UI are still not user friendly. This sounds like it's not even bargain bin material for me.

Question is: Can't Egosoft do it better or don't they want to (maybe because they're afraid of alienating their followers)?

EDIT:

So, I'm better off installing X3?

I'm sure Egosoft will fix these within a year or so,

Eh, try about 3 weeks. That's how long it took them to get X3 to a standard that's well above most AAA releases. I never had any more bugs or weirdness after that patch that came out 3 weeks after release. The few minor issues that remained were basically cleared up roughly two months after release.

Compared to some games COUGH SIMCITY COUGH COUGH I could mention, that's mindblowingly fast.

Sure they will. But all the probs posted here and over at Steam helped curing my "I got to get this DAY ONE!" fever. Lost save games are a NO BUY for me. I know I'd tear the house apart (making my gf kill me) if my save games got corrupted. And all the other issues... No, I can wait. A perfect game with great UI and Privateer gameplay would have easily won me over, but X: After... ehm... Rebirth is not that game.

Okay, thanks to your feedback. I won't buy it right now. It's obviously again a botched release with many problems. What a shame. I'm sure Egosoft will fix these with a year or so, and then it'll be cheaper anyway. Back to Path of Exile, Act II.

Guys, play for a few hours and let us know whether the control scheme ist better now and tell us about the story and the gameplay, please. If this is really good, I'll bite and throw some money at Egosoft despite the 300 games on my backlist.

Expect a 1.5 GB huge first day patch! Just read about it.

Really? Well, if it fixes bugs I guess that's good, but still, that's a pretty damn big patch.

At least it's unlocking now!

Not kidding. The guys over at Egosoft said so.

It's not unusual for the X games, though.

Hey, it's been a long time since I had opportunity to speak it.
Always this damn German with its words that sound just like another word and then mean something different.

Brush up your German for the Berlin expansion.

A Berliner would say: Ick bin een Berliner. Right, Sho?

Haven't bought Shadowrun Returns yet. I will as soon as they add the promised save game feature.

You see another ship floating in space.
You enter the ship.
A member of your crew gets killed. You can't do nothing about it and didn't know this could happen.
This happens 3 times in one playthrough. You exit the game. You uninstall it.
Why did you do it another 2 times after it failed the first time? lol.

Either way its a rogue-like, if you can even make it to the boss you've done very well

Have you ever played the game? Because you can find useful stuff in those space ships. And very often you depend on that stuff.

So you want all reward and no risk?

Yes, Beamer, exactly. I want a button saying "press to win". /facepalm

So, it depends on your crew whether you should board those spacecrafts? Okay, my bad, didn't know this. When exactly does the game teach you this? Played almost through and never got that tip/tutorial by the game.

Well, it's just not my kind of game. I don't want to depend on luck too much, because my luck level is always close to 0.

I guess my understanding of a fun gameplay differs from the one this "throwback space coin flipping game" offers. Sorry, tried to like it, but this part of the game is just plainly annoying for me.

I never play WC 1 (played Dune 1/2 back then), but WC 2 was fun. So I'm all for making them work with Win 7/8 (32 & 64 bit). It would be great if they could "mod" their own game to support widescreen and higher resolution.

Quality over quantity! Next: Burial at Sea Episode 2 will give you the 20 best minutes of gameplay EVAH! YAY!

I think they know that making a good single player game takes time and is expensive. So they they decided to turn Burial at Sea into two "episodes". That way they can fulfill the "season pass" with less effort and make some easier money. Yeah, I know, I'm evil but that's what I think. Bioshock Infinite was a good game, though, just not as great as so many people think it is.

If Elop should become the supreme leader of MS, than the xbox could soon be history (and Bing, too).

Bloomberg

"Besides emphasizing Office, Elop would be prepared to sell or shut down major businesses to sharpen the company’s focus, the people said. He would consider ending Microsoft’s costly effort to take on Google with its Bing search engine, and would also consider selling healthy businesses such as the Xbox game console if he determined they weren’t critical to the company’s strategy, the people said."

With Elop, there might be no xbox 1.2.
