News Comments > Star Citizen Picks Up Another Couple $ Million
3. Re: Star Citizen Picks Up Another Couple $ Million Nov 26, 2013, 11:27 El Pit

People are craving for Privateer or Wing Commander games. It's a niche market, but those old fans got MONEY. The X games are too complicated (I'm not talking about dumbing them down, I'm talking about e.g. working on an accessible UI) and lack a good story. There's no big company working on a good Privateer/Wing Commander/Freelancer/Starlancer game, so that's why hopes are high and wallets are open for Star Citizen. Let's see whether the Roberts brothers can deliver.

Thanks for your tech, John. I fondly remember playing games based on your work. I still don't understand how you could ever proclaim consoles that limit your work as an engine designer to be much better than PCs, though. Did you really believe that or did they pay you enough to utter such bull? Whatever. Time to move on. I wish you all the best for whatever you'll be working on.

Hey man, the dude paid me a thousand bottle caps to nuclearly obliterate all those people! A THOUSAND!

Haven't you learned anything from the war that never changes? You obliterate a whole village and a dozen villagers for 1,000 bottle caps?

You disgust me.

Because you should have asked for at least 1,500 bcaps.

My condolences to your family and to you, Blue. Especially those who dare to share their love with a lot of people are a "rare breed" in our cynical time. It takes so much strength to be open and kind to your family and friends. Those people are precious and need to be remembered for being "love generatos", as you put it. May we all be at least a bit like your grandma (and like my mom). It takes a lot to trust and love.

Played it, finished it, and moved on. The game is not as bad as many of you think, but it's definitely inferior to Borderlands.

EDIT: Yes, the ending was a big, loud "Ah, damn, we don't care, so... Let's just fade in 'The End', and that's that."

Great memories. Awesome game, my best fps experience yet. And no, I don't hate scripted cutscenes as long as they're well done and suck you into the story.

Strap on dicks will be in high demand when the Xbone ships

PR brainstorming:
xboner
our product sucks (if you ask nicely)
don't be a dick - buy an xbone
xbone - up against stiff competition
xbone - when the ps4 came too early
and so on.

MS PR suits, you got your work cut out for you.

Just got an e-mail from a buddy who bought it. Steam is willing to give him a refund (Steam wallet). Guess he didn't like it. Man, I was so hoping for this to scratch that Privateer itch.

I'm actually close now to give my money to Roberts for that MMO that will be released "when it's done".

Let me just say this. I seem to be in the minority here. I wanted so much to like the previous X games but never could because they were impossible to get into. It seems like most of the people who dislike Rebirth don't like it because it's not just X3 with better graphics.

I actually prefer it this way! The WHOLE reason I bought this game is because I figured it was going to be a departure from the series. To me, this is a GOOD THING! If you LOVED the previous X games this particular may not be your cup of tea. If you liked the idea of the previous X games but couldn't play for more than 15 minutes, this game is for YOU!

Most people don't like it because of the huge amount of bugs, broken save games (an absolutely DEADLY sin!), the "gameplay" in stations, low frame rates even on Titans, and so on. So it's not really about being a big departure from the usual x games (which many say, IT IS NOT), but about a lot of other things. In short: it's because it's a messed up release. That's why I will keep my money and Egosoft can keep their game until it's patched up and then maybe I'll buy it. What I would like to see is Privateer. The controls were fine, the gameplay was good, the story was, well, alright. Just do Privateer 3 with modern graphics, and I'd willingly pay $60 for it, unless it's totally broken at release.

Wow. Just wow. So, beyond the bugs even the gameplay and UI are still not user friendly. This sounds like it's not even bargain bin material for me.

Question is: Can't Egosoft do it better or don't they want to (maybe because they're afraid of alienating their followers)?

EDIT:
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/11/15/x-rebirth-preview/

So, I'm better off installing X3?

I'm sure Egosoft will fix these within a year or so,

Eh, try about 3 weeks. That's how long it took them to get X3 to a standard that's well above most AAA releases. I never had any more bugs or weirdness after that patch that came out 3 weeks after release. The few minor issues that remained were basically cleared up roughly two months after release.

Compared to some games COUGH SIMCITY COUGH COUGH I could mention, that's mindblowingly fast.

Sure they will. But all the probs posted here and over at Steam helped curing my "I got to get this DAY ONE!" fever. Lost save games are a NO BUY for me. I know I'd tear the house apart (making my gf kill me) if my save games got corrupted. And all the other issues... No, I can wait. A perfect game with great UI and Privateer gameplay would have easily won me over, but X: After... ehm... Rebirth is not that game.
