It's cheapest to do it this way, which is why you don't see it happening on big budget shows

i dont think budget has anything to do with it.. it started back with "twin peaks" and "northern exposure", which were "big budget" shows

its just a dumb premise imo

And yet, Twin Peaks is still awesome.

There are great deals, but the regular BluesNews reader already owns most of them. That's why especially some of us are disappointed. I've already bought most games I want during other sales, so I guess this winter sale won't hurt my wallet too much.

Braben is definitely going all out to make this awesome. If/when he releases, I will publicly apologize for calling his Kickstarter a scam.

I'm still very curious how he's making all of this with just 1.5 million, though...

Same here. If this is good, I will buy it after release.

I'm asking myself: will Roberts' "The Hangar Game" be 20 times as good for all its money?

You are so misguided in your anger, it's bordering on comical. You don't think Steam wants your money? This isn't their decision, it's the publisher calling the shots in deciding how their product is distributed. Cross-region second-hand markets that exploit price differences are highly offensive to the people who own the properties, and should probably be illegal outright. This is just them closing that loophole. And did you ever think it might even be the politicians in your country pressuring Valve and/or the publishers to not allow the indirect sale of outlawed media? Maybe you should find a new place to live, if you're not allowed to buy what you want there... You're all about free trade, so why the hell are you living in a place that doesn't allow it? Take some time to think about what you're saying before you say it.

So, I'm misguided and then you repeat what I wrote?
Oh, and "find a new place to live, if you'r enot allowed to buy what you" want to play the games. I find this comical.
Again (maybe you can read and comprehend it now): Steam and most of the publishers are in the US. Why do they bow to OZ and Germany? Show them the finger and sell the games internationally, even at the higher prices. What are they afraid of? OZ and Germany invading the US?
"You're all about free trade, so why the hell are you living in a place that doesn't allow it?" They got "free trade" here. For the companies. Not for the people. Same in the US, obviously.
"Take some time to think about what you're saying before you say it."
That is like seeing the mote in one's brother's eye without noticing the beam in one's own. Troll on!

The solution is to region-lock, and charge according to what people can afford. Everyone wins.

Except Australians.

And Germans. They can afford the games, but the censorship in their country makes Valve and the publishers not sell the game to Germans.

Going for cheaper prices is one thing (although: isn't this one of the pros of free trade?!), but cutting off people in some countries with ridiculous censorship from ways to legally own the games is another thing. I got the money, I usually pay the higher euro prices, but I'm not allowed to buy games like Dead Island with my IP. So I ask people to gift it to me, problem solved. But if this becomes impossible, there's of course another way to play those games. Not the way I like it, but if Valve and all the others involved decide to region block even gifts, then it's their loss, not mine.

Free trade, people, free trade! But of course not for the pariahs, the regular consumers. They can go and suck it!

Dear publisher, developers, Valve: If you do this, then this means that you actively refuse to allow me access to a game. You won't sell it to me, and now I can't even get it gifted. I have hundreds of games on Steam, but if you do this, than it is YOU who forces me into warez. Yes, YOU! You're sitting in the US and could tell OZ, German, and other governments to go and fxxk themselves, but instead you bow to those self-procalimed godfathers of morale and tell the consumers, YOUR consumers to pxxs off. And you know what? You do this, and I will do it and pxxs off. With my money. That you don't want. It's up to you, it's your choice. At least give me the chance to ask some people here and elsewhere to gift me games that you refuse to sell to me directly, but if you even refuse to do this, if you dare to stick a yellow star or whatever on me, then I'll be gone. And I WILL play those games, but without paying you, the developers, the publishers. Because you don't want to sell. Your mistake, not mine. I can solve this problem by taking all of you out of the equation. Decided wisely.

Sorry for the drama, but this pixxes me off HUGE TIME!

Did they say in the video at what stretch goal they'll release the game?

The only stretch goal I'm concerned with is Space Burrito Surprise!

*Leaning close to the monitor and whispering out of the side of my mouth* ...well, the rumor is that at the 50 million mark. When you order the 'Space Burrito Surprise' at the promenade food court in game, a local mexican restaurant will actually DELIVER one to your house *nodding*....it's true

Almost right. Not when the project hits $50 million, but when YOUR contribution hits $50 million.

Oh NO....not the holiday sale....*thinking*...well, I suppose my wife doesn't really need the necklace and earrings she has already shown me online that she wanted for Christmas...

That's a good idea! If you simply bought what she wanted, it wouldn't be a surprise at christmas, right? So DON'T buy it, and she sure will be surprised. And don't we all want to be surprised at christmas?

Plus: Afther christmas, you will be able to decide all alone what you want to do with your money in the future. It really is a win-win situation!

Whoa, price cuts all over the place for me. Didn't their Autumn sale end about 45 minutes ago?

Yes, they fixed it. The Winter Sale is a GO!

The time between sales is the time to play the games we bought during the sales.

Maybe it's because of copyright issues. There's a pretty good OZ movie called "The Dish". Although this satellite dish is not coming out of Sam Neill's rectum.

They gotta stop bending to every fan boys whim and focus on the CORE GAMEPLAY which is dogfighting.

WHAT?! Are you nuts? There's a MOBA in Star Citizen, and it definitely needs RTS! And what about a tower defense game, like defend a sector by carefully placing space stations (for $100 a piece)? Isn't that what Privateer, Freelancer, and Elite were all about? Don't you love these games because of all the running around on stations, the hangar action, and especially RTS and MOBA? We need new stretch goals: MOBA @ $40 million, RTS @ $50 million, and tower defense @ $60 million. Of course, this will push back development just a bit further (something like 5 to 10 years). But the fans want it, and the fans will pay for it!

The Star Citizen crew is definitely shocked by the Elite team actually delivering PLAYABLE non-hangar game elements. That kind of ruined the idea of Star Citizen. I'm sure that Roberts already sent Braben a protest note, telling him to stop offering actual game elements to the public, or to face Roberts suing Braben with his tens of millions of supporters' money.

EDIT: Yeah, I'm kind of trolling, sure. But Star Citizen is biting off much more than it can chew. And that is delaying development. I want great kind of sequel to Privateer, not a dogfighting/FPS/RPG/RTS/MOBA hybrid.
