1 and 2 at least, couldn't get into 3 much. Sad to see this happen as it was totally unexpected (at least to me). I wonder what caused it?

I've only ever been to one LAN party (i'm not a big socializer). It was in 1998 or 1999 and i had my trusty celeron 300a overclocked to 450. A lot of us there (there were about 20 of us) were first timers. I remember us blowing the main breaker on the house and we had to make a trip to the local home depot to get another...

He speaks the truth. I can launch warcraft 3 and takes 100% of one of my 4 cores just sitting at the menu. It's simply reserving it.

You do know that Supreme Commander can actually benefit from 4 cores right? And there are other games that use multi-cores as well.

News Comments > EverQuest & EverQuest II to Expand
22. Hmmm Aug 18, 2008, 05:02 Efflixi

So here's a question. I finally got truly bored with WoW after playing for 3.5 years. I still like the concept of an MMORPG but I've tried several (although not any lately) and been turned off on all of them.

Now, i tried Everquest, i really did. But this was 8 years ago. I bought a version that had the first XP in it and played for a total of 8 hours (yes, 8 hours) and got to like level 5 or 6 and never played again. Would it be worth my time and money to try it out? What about expansions? How would those work for me?

I thought antibiotics killed viruses too. So if they don't... then what kind of medicine does?

6. Re: No subject Aug 12, 2008, 16:26 Efflixi

Well... the fluid demo is pretty cool, I guess. If turning of and on hardware acceleration is actually representative of the difference, it's about a billion times faster with it on. Of course, that's probably the whole point of the demo, so I naturally don't read much into it.

It really is that much faster. I've read technical articles on it. Also keep in mind that you lose graphics performance because it's using the same stream processors used to work on pixel shaders to accomplish the PhysX. On games that may not use all the pixel shaders available and yet use PhysX there wouldn't be much of a drop in performance.

However, most games don't use PhysX so in reality, it's kinda worthless right now.

Personally, i've not been interested in id's offerings since Quake 3, and i preferred Quake 2 over Quake 3.

I'd be willing to bet that World of Warcraft had 3-4 years of content planned. I remember shortly after the game was released, someone made a movie after discovering all the unaccessible continents and instances (for example, they had video of Blackwing Lair, 6 months before it was actually in-game). This was 3 years ago mind you, and some of that content is STILL not available in the real game!

Wolfenstein wasn't the first FPS either. There was a maze type game where the player was a smiley face shooting things at other players. The platform? The Atari... it networked multiple ataris through the freaking midi port!

So..

FPS invented on the PC. - Actually on the Atari
RTS invented on the PC. - Genesis
RPG invented on the PC. - debatable
MMO invented on the PC.
User created mods invented on the PC. - this is debatable, i distinctly recall people modding console games back in the 80's
Multiplayer online gaming invented on the PC. - Atari

Now, im not a console fanboi, i've never owned a console and probably never will. Just pointing out facts. I love my PC and would never give it up if i had a choice.

@ #40

I hope you realize i was being sarcastic and poking fun at the fact that if you break down the words into non-marketing hype, that your list of features is only what has been included standard in most half-decent PC games since the mid 90's.
