I hope they take their time. Everything I've seen so far tells me that they are on the right track for another great game. I like that they recognize that the first game(s) had some major issues with a pretty narrow track to victory that kind of discouraged experimentation and more than, say, two playthroughs. Sounds like they have fixed the hell out of that issue by adding a ton of gameplay effecting customization and random (procedurally generated?) maps and events. And I agree that is SO nice to see publishers let studios go back to the "When it's done" model that is frustrating but so much better for their customers. I'm happy to wait until the people who have their names on it think the game is actually done.

I whole-heartedly second the Jen Hale idea! The real world money Quasar is probably on someone's to-do list. And if it wasn't... it is now : (

ME4 will be set during the final years of the Human/Turian conflict known as the First Contact War.

You play as Sam (Samuel or Samantha) "Buck" Rodgers, a human pilot who crash lands on a hostile, alien planet and is forced to cooperate with the very enemy you were trying to destroy when you were marooned -- the dirty Turian scum who shot you down and killed your best friend Dak (Dakland or Dakliona)! Revenge soon takes a back seat to survival as you and the Turian pilot learn to first communicate... then eventually love.

Long story short: The Turian gets pregnant and dies, you raise the Turian child as your own, you end up saving the kid from Human slaver/strip miners and eventually accompany the child to the Turian homeworld where you teach both Humans and Turians to look beyond their differences, end the war, and become allies -- and, more importantly, friends.

The multiplayer consist of a persistent hub tower containing DLC vendors and public 2-4 player Quasar pods (no match making - first come, first serve only).

I also really enjoyed the multiplayer in ME3. Matches lasted just long enough and the evac phase at the end of each match was always exciting to me -- and highlighted the BEST part of my experience: I played hundreds of matches and I don't think I ever ran into a dickhead playing that game. Everyone I played with was there to cooperate, kick ass and have fun. Maybe it was just pure luck but I've never been more impressed by a community. That's what turned an OK game into a really, really fun one for me.

Such a sad story about the kid who "won". I feel bad for him. And I WILL be keeping tabs on him to see if he ever gets anything more than a signed poster and a bunch of empty promises.

I do NOT feel bad for anyone who knows ANYTHING about Peter Molyneux. If you've heard the name, you have to know that when he yells "WOLF!!!" you can happily go about your business, keep doing what you're doing, and pay him no mind.

The gent is pathological in his use of semi-truth-like-un-statements of joyously dreamy projections laced with phantasy-based examinations of his latest project that he is SOOO... gonna get bored with, and distance himself from, as quickly as you can say, "HUGE ANNOUNCEMENT from Peter Molyneux's NEW studio!".

I'm just pleased as punch (and a bit amazed) that HBO made the show - and that "Game of Thrones" is as popular as it is (again, amazed. Even my sister loves it, and she couldn't give a flip about 'some silly fantasy books.')

I'm secretly hoping that HBO taps the GOT crew and GRRM to make a science fiction series (a first for HBO?) based on George's "Tuf Voyaging" stories. It's been a while since I read 'em but I remember thinking "The Plague Star" short would make a pretty cool movie. Many years later, when "Jurassic Park" hit the big screen, I thought, "Wow. Computer graphics in movies actually look REALLY amazing now! Someone should make Grearge R.R. Martin's 'The Plague Star'... and do a sequal to 'TRON"!" Yeaaaah... so not ALL my ideas are solid gold... ; )

Cheapest around here (New Haven, CT) is $3.79 for regular gas. It's even worse further up toward Hartford and along the interstate.

We probably shouldn't flaunt our "cheap" rural, east coast, US gas prices. Our EU and California friends will get jealous (over more than our mad gaming skillz ; )

Back on topic: as long as Amazon and others fairly adjust their cost of doing business, I'm OK with that. My fear is that we are gonna see more and more price 'adjustments' as companies (like Netflix just did) start paying extortion money to ISPs so their customers can continue to shop/download/stream and browse without bottlenecks and pay walls popping up all over the place.

Again, maybe I'm just paranoid... but the recent Netflix deal with Comcast (and similar deals with AT$T [my TV/Internet provider] and Veri$on [my phone company] right around the corner) puts the fear in me.

Watched "Diehard" for the billionth time the other day and was struck by the L.A. gas station (where the street cop buys his snacks) sign that advertises regular gas for 77 cents a gallon. In Raleigh, NC, my cheapest fuel option is $3.29 a gallon - as of about 15 min. ago.

Anyone know why "XCOM: Enemy Unknown" and "XCOM: Enemy Within" are the same price on (the US) Xbox Live Marketplace? And why are they even still selling 'Unknown' when 'Within' is the same game with some reportedly great add-ons and all the DLC included? Shouldn't 'Unknown' be gone, or, like, $10-15? If I bought Xbox 'Unknown', then all the DLC, then 'Within' (thinking it was "XCOM: Enemy Unknown II")I'd be pretty pissed!

So then it's inflation? I'm cool with that.

But I start to get a little worried when the year starts with a massive hit to net neutrality followed by price hikes from net-dependent companies, and news that folks (so far only Netflix that I know of) are making 'preferred provider' deals with comm companies. Guess I'm just paranoid...

Is this a long overdue (inflation) price increase or a hike based on some behind-the-scenes wheeling and dealing with Comcast, AT&T, Verizon and friends?

Netflix has made news recently for striking a deal with Comcast (and most likely all major U.S. service providers soon enough - since the water smells like blood now) to "provide Netflix customers with a superior quality of service" over Comcast's network. I can only assume there will be a Netflix price hike coming down the line at some point (when they don't think it will kill the company). Is Amazon buying "preferred status" (as the recent gutting of 'net neutrality' seems to allow) and passing the burden of a new toll on to its customers? Are they being proactive; assuming they know they will have to pay preferred status tolls in the near future?

So... when I first saw dev diary shorts on Xbox Live (when the game was mid development)they talked a LOT about the context-sensitive, one-button-activated, vault/slide/wall walk maneuvers you could pull off using nothing but the game geometry -- ala run up to a laser trip wire, hit the magic button, and you do a cool move like leap and tumble over it... or slide under it. Did they keep that rather cool looking feature in the game or did they dump it and pretend it never existed?

I go into my local Game store occasionally. I look around, read the back of a few games' boxes and think "Interesting, I must check out Metacritic and see how much it is on Steam." I can't imagine wanting a physical copy anymore.

That would me me too. I've been at this gaming thing for a long time (1981+/-) and I'm old and jaded... and I have kids, cats, dogs and... no time for bull-pucky and yammer about how great your game is. Gimme a demo and I'll download it and play it in the time I have left on this Earth ; )

Spending the $29 to upgrade has been on my back, back, back burner so it looks like I should just, as the shoe says, DO IT! : )

Thanks for the low-down on the app store. I look forward to giving it a look.

I have yet to update my MBP to Snow Leopard (It's been on my to-do list for, what, 2 years now?) so I have not had a chance to play with the Mac app store. Is it any good?

I use Steam for Mac games but, sadly, Steam is just Mac -playable copies of games I used to play on my PC (Half-Life 2, etc.) for me. I've also tried stuff like Mac Games Arcade and the web (of course) to find *anything* new to play on my Mac laptop. Since my Mac is portable and my PC is as portable as a dishwasher... I'd like to play more games on my Mac while I'm on the road. I hope the Mac app store can help an old Mac/PC guy like me have a bit more fun before he croaks.

Man... The first thing me and The Wife did when we got home on the 14th was jump right into co-op Reach. Boy... If I'd bought a 4GB Slim so we wouldn't have to share a TV and 'box (like a friend of mine did) I would be VERY, VERY UNHAPPY.

You can't honestly believe that NO ONE at Bungie or Microsoft thought that a "Hard disk required for co-op" warning might sell more HDs and NOT piss off some of their most loyal customers?

I think I'd hold off on a Kinect bundle until we all read online what they forgot to print on the box!

Blue's is lousy with Triangle folk! When the Epic, Funcom and Red Storm guys aren't making news and posting here, they're busy racing their Lamborghinis down Hillsborough St. -- or holding "Will work for web access" signs in some cases.
